Box Office

The film grossed $30 million in its opening weekend, 38% higher than the original Diary and a significant return on the $6 million production budget. It was the second highest opening in the history of the independent studio Lions Gate Films. The reasoning, according to Steve Rothenberg, Lions Gate president of domestic distribution, is due to its unique market appeal. "I believe that we're in all the right theaters...I'm not sure there's much room for expansion." Like its predecessor, Reunion opened at number one, despite playing in fewer theaters than most Big Six studio films. One reason for the film's success was credited to a broader audience demographic following the success of Diary; exit polls for Reunion showed that 52% of the audience were black women over the age of 35, as compared to 58% for Diary, indicating that a wider cross-section may have become interested in the films.
