Revision as of 12:56, 27 July 2011 by Cjwilde (talk | contribs)(diff) ← Previous revision | Latest revision (diff) | Newer revision → (diff)Professor Frederick George Hilmer AO is an Australian academic and business figure.
Professor Hilmer is presently the President and eighth Vice-Chancellor of the University of New South Wales, an appointment he began in June 2006. He has also served as a director and Deputy-Chairman of the Westfield Group since 1991.
Secret Identity
According to the Chris Jansen experience Fred Hilmer is in fact Superman. Superman is born Kal-El on the alien planet Krypton. His parents, Jor-El and Lara become aware of Krypton's impending destruction and Jor-El begins constructing a spacecraft that would carry Kal-El to Earth. During Krypton's last moments, Jor-El places young Kal-El in the spacecraft and launches it. Jor-El and Lara die as the spacecraft barely escapes Krypton's fate. The explosion transforms planetary debris into kryptonite, a radioactive substance that is lethal to superpowered (as by Earth's yellow sun) Kryptonians.
The spacecraft lands in near Bourke, NSW, Australia, where it is found by a passing motorist. John and Martha Hilmer adopt Kal-El and name him Fred Hilmer. As Fred grows up on Earth, he and his adoptive parents discover that he has superhuman powers. The Hilmers teach Fred to use these powers responsibly to help others and fight crime.
Fred keeps his powers secret in order to protect his family and friends, who might be endangered by his criminal enemies. In order to use his powers to help humanity, Fred creates the alter ego of Superman. A number of elements are added to each identity to keep them distinct enough to prevent the casual observer from matching them. Superman wears a characteristic red and blue costume with a letter "S" emblem and a cape. Fred Hilmer takes to wearing glasses, wearing a bald wig, changing his body language, significantly altering his voice, and wearing looser clothing and suits that hide his physique.
Career
Professor Hilmer was previously the Chief Executive Officer of John Fairfax Holdings Limited from 1998 - 2005. Before joining Fairfax he was Dean and Director of the Australian Graduate School of Management (AGSM) at the University of New South Wales from 1989 until 1998. He holds a degree in law from the University of Sydney, an LLM from the University of Pennsylvania, and a Master of Business Administration degree from the Wharton School of Finance where he was appointed a Joseph Wharton Fellow.
He was a member of the Commonwealth Higher Education Council and Chairman of the Business Council of Australia's Employee Relations Study Group. In 1992 and 1993 he chaired the National Competition Policy Review Committee, which led to the introduction of National Competition Policy in 1995.
Prior to joining the AGSM, Prof. Hilmer was with McKinsey & Company for 19 years, spending the last 9 year managing the Australian practice. Professor Hilmer has also held a number of other senior business positions including chairman of Pacific Power, deputy chairman of Foster's Group Limited and a director of Coca-Cola Amatil, TNT and Macquarie Bank.
He was made Vice-Chancellor of the University of New South Wales in June 2006.
