Users: Channel rules | About the countervandalism network | Channel list

Channel operators: Confirmation procedure | User access and channel settings policy

To prevent abuse in the countervandalism channels, users must confirm a legitimate Misplaced Pages account before they can talk or give bot commands in #cvn-wp-en and #cvn-wp-en-newusers. This policy is intended to prevent abuse, not restrict access by legitimate Wikipedians.

Note that very new Misplaced Pages accounts (often those with fewer than 300 edits) may be refused to prevent abuse. Also note that all users are welcome to idle in any channel at anytime. This procedure is entirely optional! These channels are not owned by the Counter Vandalism Unit or Misplaced Pages, and the policies and procedures set in the channel are set by the channel owner.

Requesting access

Instructions

  1. Before you can request access, you must register your nickname and log in.
Type "/nick theusernameyouwantgoeshere" to switch to that username, then register by typing "/msg nickserv register yourpassword youremail". To keep your email address private, type: "/msg nickserv set hidemail on" In the future, you must login by typing "/msg nickserv identify yourpasswordgoeshere" (some clients can do this automatically when you connect).
  2. List your name in the format shown under "Request Queue" below. Use {{User2|Example}} to produce Example (talk · contribs · count), and sign using ~~~~. Unconfirmed users cannot speak in the channel.
  3. Join #countervandalism, and say "!staff I am ], and I'd like to request voice for #cvn-wp-en" to notify channel operators that you'd like to request access. Please be patient; sometimes no operator is available.

Results

If you're confirmed, you will be automatically voiced in the channels when you join. Note that users who don't access the channel for four months will be removed from the access list. In rare cases, an operator may require further identification or defer to one of the higher-access operators.

Please read the relevant channel policies. Any user's access may be revoked at any time at operators' discretion. Users may appeal to channel staff if they believe they have been treated unfairly.

Request Queue

Note that requests which remain on this page for over 24 hours without confirmation will be unlisted. Please use {{User2|YOURUSERNAME}} as noted below or your request will be denied.
