Narrative article and lawsuit

In February 2011, Arindam Chaudhuri was the subject of the cover article in the The Caravan magazine, authored by Siddhartha Deb. The article was built upon a series of interviews of Chaudhuri, and according to the author, "looked at the aspirations unleashed in the new India, both in figures such as Chaudhuri, whose face stares out at one from advertisements in virtually every newspaper and magazine of note, to the largely provincial middle-class students who flock to his schools in their desire to make it into the world of business management." The article was actually an excerpt titled "The Gatsby in New Delhi", from Deb's non-fiction book The Beautiful and the Damned, which chronicles Chaudhuri's successes, but also suggests that there are negative aspects to IIPM that Chaudhuri’s advertising and public relations tend to obscure.

In June 2011, IIPM filed a lawsuit for defamation against the publishers and editors of Caravan magazine, parent organization Penguin India, author Siddhartha Deb, and Google India The suit was filed in the court of Silchar, in the east Indian state of Assam, about 2,200km from New Delhi, by one Kishorendu Gupta together with IIPM, seeking damages of ₹50 crore (US$5.8 million). In August 2011, the Supreme Court stayed the proceedings at the Silchar court following the transfer petition filed by the defendants.
