The Governor's Council of Massachusetts is a popularly-elected board which oversees judicial nominations. The councillors are elected from eight councillor districts spread across the commonwealth.

Historically, if the offices of Governor and Lieutenant Governor were simultaneously vacant, the Council would assume the executive branch of government. This occurred only once, in 1800. Modern lines of succession have bypassed the Governor's Council.

Its chairman in 1800 was Thomas Dawes.
