Vijay

Vijay (full name Joseph Vijay) is a Tamil actor, born June 22, 1974. He is known as "Ilaya Thalapathy Vijay" among his fans, which means "Young Turk" or "Young General". He takes the onscreen title "Ilayathalapathy". He has appeared in about more than 40 movies, and many of them are blockbusters, as well as some Coca-Cola & Sunfeast Milky Magic Biscuit commercials. He is hailed by his fans as the succesor to Rajnikaanth as Tamil Film Industry`s "UNDISPUTED SUPER STAR".

Vijay dropped out in first year of Bachelor's Degree in Visual Communications at Loyola College, Chennai. He has been mentored in his career by his father, S. A. Chandrasekhara, the writer, producer, and director of his films. He made his debut as hero at the age of 18 in the flop film Naalaya Theerpu. His first hit Rasigan released at the age of 20!

Vijay is one of the leading actors in South India.Vijay considers Ajith as his arch-rival as both of them are more popular and both generate bigger openings! So Vijay takes a indirect dig at Ajith in all his films since 2002. He started as a romantic hero but transformed into a mass entertainer after his blockbuster success Ghilli in 2004.

Poove Unakkaga
A story about the feud between two friendly families, Hindus and Christians, who become enemies due to the love marriage between their children. Vijay co-starred in this film with Sangeetha and Anju Arvind. This was his first 300-day hit film. After this, his salary was raised to Rs50 lakhs per film!
Kadhalukku Mariyadhai
A film by Fazil, which gave Vijay a new look and was the turning point in his career. Shalini debuted in her first Tamil film as a heroine. Kadhalukku Mariyadhai is a story of star-struck lovers, torn betwen their love for each other and for their families. The film ran for more than 250 days in 57 centres. A record!.
Kushi
S.J. Suryah came up with another turning point for Vijay with the hit Kushi. This movie had a run of over 175 days in many theatres. Vijay paired up with Jyothika in this movie. The songs from this film were huge hits.
Friends
This movie had Vijay working again with Surya after Naerukku Naer. This film is about friendship and problems occurring between friends. It was a comedy entertainment with some sentimental scenes, where Devayani paired with Vijay.
Ghilli
A Tamil remake of the Telugu blockbuster film Okkadu, directed by Dharani. Like its original version, it was a blockbuster in Tamil as well. The story is about a kabaddi player rescuing a village belle from the claws of a don in Madurai, who is bent on marrying her. Trisha paired with Vijay for the first time. This film ran for more than 300 days in many place of Tamil Nadu, beating old box-office records and setting a new one. Sources say that the film has grossed about 45 crores worldwide.
Thirupachi
After their successful teaming up in 'Gilli', the Vijay-Trisha pair come together again in 'Thirupachi'. The film was directed by debutant Perarasu. It's again a super hit film with all the ingredients needed for a masala action movie. After this, his salary was raised to Rs5 crores per film!
