People with this syndrome have trouble making the empathic and social connections between themselves and other people, a handicap that affects their interactions with others. This is often offset with superior ability in other areas, e.g. mathematics.
Asperger's Disorder should not be confused with sociopathy. While the sociopath can become an excellent manipulater through observation of action-causing-reaction, the sociopath also has greatly diminished emotional reactions of his own, so nothing gets in his way from a psychological point of view. Someone with autism, on the other hand, has very strong emotional responses, which will tend to interfere with any manipulative effects; in addition, they seem to have trouble with even the observational approach to human interaction. People with this syndrome may even have a lot of trouble with "pretending."
