AFT5 newsletter

Hey again all :). So, some big news, some small news, some good news, some bad news!

On the "big news" front; we've now deployed AFT5 on to 10 percent of articles, This is pretty awesome :). On the "bad news", however, it looks like we're having to stop at 10 percent until around September - there are scaling issues that make it dangerous to deploy wider. Happily, our awesome features engineering team is looking into them as we speak, and I'm optimistic that the issues will be resolved.

For both "small" and "good" news; we've got another office hours session. This one is tomorrow, at 22:00 UTC in #wikimedia-office - I appreciate it's a bit late for Europeans, but I wanted to juggle it so US east coasters could attend if they wanted :). Hope to see you all there! 11:54, 1 August 2012 (UTC)

more?

Thanks for reviewing Moments, I was wondering if you have the time if you could also review What Makes You Beautiful. I nominated it 2 days ago. Regards AdabowtheSecond (talk) 01:18, 30 July 2012 (UTC)

So I just opened and I didn't open right see Talk:Oh Love/GA1

Thanks a ton!  Fixed TheSpecialUser  17:16, 30 July 2012 (UTC)
For clarity do you want me to review now before you go on vacation or after AdabowtheSecond (talk) 16:53, 31 July 2012 (UTC)
I'm leaving tonight (I live in Ahmedabad) so I've 16 more hours to edit Wiki. I'd be great if you give issues today but if it is taking time for you (being your 1st review), then I'll wait till I return on 10th. TheSpecialUser  00:29, 1 August 2012 (UTC)
Your city looks very pretty from the wiki images on the main article. I don't how far I come, if so i'll just place on hold till the 10th AdabowtheSecond (talk) 02:00, 1 August 2012 (UTC)
Have placed finished the review. Have a nice vacation AdabowtheSecond (talk) 06:41, 1 August 2012 (UTC)

Area collaboration

How do you propose we start? I'm around until the 7th, then back by the 2nd.--Gilderien Chat|List of good deeds 17:03, 31 July 2012 (UTC)

Unfortunately, I'm going to a mini-vacation to Goa starting from today till 10th August. You stated that you'll return on 2nd, so on 2nd September? I'll be not editing wiki after 25 August actively but, will start the work on the article when I return. TheSpecialUser  00:32, 1 August 2012 (UTC)
Have fun :) Yeah, I'll be out west over the pond in the US of A until the 2nd (I think) so okay, thanks, and I'll carry on working on it when I have some time.--Gilderien Chat|List of good deeds 15:55, 1 August 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for addressing the grammar

It is not my strength :-) Doc James (talk · contribs · email) (if I write on your talk page please reply on mine) 18:28, 31 July 2012 (UTC)

No problem :) I've given the final review now. Once addressed, I'll pass the article. Cheers! TheSpecialUser  00:32, 1 August 2012 (UTC)

GA Review Lakshadweep

Hello there, thanks for reviewing the article. But i disagree with your quick failing it.The Quick fail criteria has six points. And i would like to point out to them.

  1. The article completely lacks reliable sources.--The operative word here is completely.
  2. The topic is treated in an obviously non-neutral way--You can point out Misplaced Pages:Manual of Style/Words to watch. But the article is not really obvious in its non-neutrality (if thats a phrase).
  3. There are cleanup banners that are obviously still valid--No Banners.
  4. The article is or has been the subject of ongoing or recent, unresolved edit wars.--No edit war.
  5. The article specifically concerns a rapidly unfolding current event with a definite endpoint.--No current event.
  6. The article contains significant close paraphrasing or copyright violations.--You can quickfail it on this point if you find a copyvio.

As for the copyedit,I admit it needs work but the criteria for a GA is significantly less stringent than a FA as specified here.Besides it can be improved and it is not a quick fail point. Please have a rethink about the article and see if you can help it in improving. The union territories are not the best looked after Misplaced Pages articles of India.Regrds--Ayanosh (talk) 06:11, 1 August 2012 (UTC)

I agree but this article is in pretty bad state and from bad I mean really bad. The article cannot be brought up to GA status in the time gap of 2-3 weeks thus I have failed it. It was a premature nom and no work whatsoever had been done in improving the article. Sorry but first of all the article is improved then nominated for GA and then minor issues that exist in the article are addressed. This article can surely get to GA but not within a small amount of time. TheSpecialUser  06:59, 1 August 2012 (UTC)
If the article fails any of the criteria, it can be quickly failed. Right now, it fails 1 and 3 clearly. TheSpecialUser  07:01, 1 August 2012 (UTC)
There may not have been any tags on the article, but tags were needed. I just tagged five sections as completely unreferenced. Another (Other products) has a reference that is so vague as to be completely unuseful because there is no way to tell what it is. LadyofShalott 08:16, 1 August 2012 (UTC)

linkrot tagging

Hi TSU. Just a quick note re: your tagging of Extreme Paintbrawl 4; this should have been {{No footnotes}} instead of {{Linkrot}}, as references require being in-line before citation templates can be applied. Cheers, Nikthestoned 15:54, 1 August 2012 (UTC)

I know about it now. Thanks for informing anyways :) TheSpecialUser  15:56, 1 August 2012 (UTC)
Fair enough, apologies! Nikthestoned 16:12, 1 August 2012 (UTC)
Not necessary... TheSpecialUser  16:17, 1 August 2012 (UTC)

Hi (Hawking)

Hi TSU, I just wanted to drop by and see if you were happy with the changes I made in response to your comments at ] - I'm getting a little nervous about getting completed reviews as it drops down the list - and it would be great to convert 'comments' into 'supports' where I can... :) Fayedizard (talk) 15:34, 3 August 2012 (UTC)

Page Triage newsletter

Hey all. Some quick but important updates on what we've been up to and what's coming up next :).

The curation toolbar, our Wikimedia-supported twinkle replacement. We're going to be deploying it, along with a pile of bugfixes, to wikipedia on 9 August. After a few days to check it doesn't make anything explode or die, we'll be sticking up a big notice and sending out an additional newsletter inviting people to test it out and give us feedback :). This will be followed by two office hours sessions - one on Tuesday the 14th of August at 19:00 UTC for all us Europeans, and one on Wednesday the 15th at 23:00 UTC for the East Coasters out there :). As always, these will be held in #wikimedia-office; drop me a note if you want to know how to easily get on IRC, or if you aren't able to attend but would like the logs.

I hope to see a lot of you there; it's going to be a big day for everyone involved, I think :). I'll have more notes after the deployment! Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 20:13, 3 August 2012 (UTC)

DYK for Oh Love

Updated DYK queryOn 7 August 2012, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Oh Love, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that "Oh Love", the first single from Green Day's album, ¡Uno!, is the third-ever song to make its debut at number one on the US Rock Songs chart? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Oh Love. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

Reverts for unsourced

For Reverts such as these dont forget to place {{uw-unsourced1}} on the talkpage of IP/editors, one should not expect them that they know WP:V or know about page history to read your edit summaries. regards--DBigXray 06:24, 8 August 2012 (UTC)

There were multiple IPs and users (2 and 2) so didn't warned. Cheers! TheSpecialUser  06:26, 8 August 2012 (UTC)
Ek Se Bhale Do should have given the {{uw-unsourced1}} to both of them, isnt it ? --DBigXray 07:35, 8 August 2012 (UTC)
Agree. The waves and girls here are just distracting me a little. Will take care next time :) TheSpecialUser  07:54, 8 August 2012 (UTC)
Dude seriously, I think you need to clearly set your priorities . If you know what i mean.--DBigXray 08:16, 8 August 2012 (UTC)
