Bannu (Template:Lang-ur, in the local Pashto dialect called Bana) is the principal city of the Bannu District in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province of Pakistan. It was a British military base, especially in actions against the hostile tribesmen in the neighbouring mountains of Waziristan. The town is located 1 mile (1.6 km) south of the Kurram river, (35 k.m) east of North and South Waziristan, 79 miles (127 km) south of Kohat, and 89 miles (143 km) north of Dera Ismail Khan. An inhabitant of Bannu is known as Banisai (Bannuchai). Former President of Pakistan Ghulam Ishaq Khan belonged to Bannu.
