Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.
    Shortcuts

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

    Current requests for protection

Request either semi-protection, full protection, or move protection by placing it in bold text (add ''' before and after a word to make it bold) at the beginning of your statement.

    Misplaced Pages:Introduction (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)

    • Full Protection for:

http://en.wikipedia.org/search/ title=Misplaced Pages:Introduction&oldid=56283444 to stop edit warring or severe vandalism; i.e. with a sandbox of it's own the text of the introduction wouldn't keep getting deleted by visitors.--Chuck Marean 16:14, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

    Battle of Mu'tah (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

    Bruster's Ice Cream (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

    • Full Protection -- There have been repeated instances of vandalism by unregistered accounts. They've been reverted by registered users such as myself. I would like to keep it that way by only having registered users do any edits. Thanks. Jgera5 13:56, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
      • There doesn't appear to be persistent enough vandalism for either semi (what it sounded like you intended) or full (what you requested). Please just continue to revert vandalism as it happens. Thanks! Syrthiss 14:02, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

    Template:User atheist (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)

Full protection: I have my doubts that this will go anywhere but I stil believe in following procedure. Request that this template be protected in the form "This user is an atheist" until the entire userbox debate is sorted out. This would give the template the same level of protection as Template:User christian has been afforded. Doc glasgow changed the text of this box to "This user is interested in atheism" three times since it's reinstatement through Misplaced Pages:Deletion review a few days ago. After three separate people changed it back he then converted it to a redirect to Template:User atheism which is an interest rather than an association box. As this template is used on several hundred pages such changes without prior discussion borders if not falls directly into the realm of vandalism. --StuffOfInterest 18:30, 30 May 2006 (UTC)

    • Protected. --Tony Sidaway 19:24, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
Tony, I'm sure you meant well by your action but the request was to protect the template in the form it existed when it was recovered through DRV, not what Doc changed it to after it was restored. --StuffOfInterest 19:35, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
Actually, protection doesn't work that way. We aren't making any kind of decisions or judgements when we protect a page. We aren't picking a version no matter what was requested. --Woohookitty 23:32, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
That may be so, but I have restored the "This user is an atheist" userbox. We also have one for "This user is interested in atheism", which is a different matter, and a redirect is not germane. Practically every religion has its own userbox; why not atheism?  ProhibitOnions  23:38, 30 May 2006 (UTC)

    Current requests for unprotection

If you simply want to make spelling corrections or add information to a protected page that is not disputed, and you are not involved in any disputes there, consider simply adding {{Editprotected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page.

Current requests for significant edits to a protected page

Please demonstrate a good reason for an edit to a protected page. These are only done in exceptional circumstances, or when there is very clear consensus for an edit and continued protection. Please link to the talk page where consensus was reached.

You may also add {{Editprotected}} to the article's talk page if you would like an inconsequential change of some kind made, but note that most of these should simply wait for unprotection.
