if you look at the template, you will see there is no / button, so these templates do not collapse or uncollapse. hence, adding instructions about collapsing something that does not collapse is not a good idea. if there is no or button, we don't add {{collapsible option}} or |state=. Template:Infobox men's college basketball team‎, etc.

Frietjes, here's a template merge I would support in a heartbeat: Template:Infobox men's college basketball team‎ and Template:Infobox women's college basketball team‎.

Have you ever contemplated a comprehensive merge of all the college sports team infobox templates? With a handful of options, I think all U.S. college sports could be accommodated and the team infoboxes would then have a uniform appearance across all sports. Just a thought . . . . Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 21:48, 23 May 2013 (UTC)

the first is already proposed here. I had thought about the second as well, but it will take more time to work out all the details, since there are differences in the post-season tournament section for various sports. Frietjes (talk) 22:19, 23 May 2013 (UTC)
I just posted a comment in support of the merge of men's and women's college basketball templates. That pending merge should be a no-brainer, and you are clearly already on top of the two minor issues to be addressed in the combined template.
The creation of a combined infobox template for all U.S. college sports teams would require a lot of work and the inclusion of several options, but the core information to be included is common to all. Differences in NCAA playoff structure, etc., could be accommodated by options to be toggled as needed. The payoff would be worth the effort. Not only should these infoboxes have a common appearance within a given sport, the teams affiliated with a given university should also have a common appearance and graphics style, and that can only be accomplished by a common template across all college sports teams. I think you would find the college football, basketball and baseball sports projects to be supportive, and the other college sports do not have active/vocal WikiProjects and tend to follow the lead of the football, basketball and baseball projects. I would be grateful for your help in making this happen, but I also understand that you have numerous pending template projects already. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 11:14, 24 May 2013 (UTC)

Show template para or not

Three more questions for {{infobox Bach composition}}: how can a title - normally italic - be not italic? how can a parameter be not shown (example: BWV)? how can a parameter be normally not shown, but shown on demand (example cantata_cycle)? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:46, 10 June 2013 (UTC)

reply to Gerda Arendt
 1. two options here, one is to make |name= show the title without italics and |title= show the title with italics, or two is to have a |noitalics= option which would remove the italics. which do you prefer?
 2. this edit makes bwv fully optional.
 3. the way that infobox works, if a parameter is passed as {{{cantata_cycle|}}} to a data field, the field and label will only appear if |cantata_cycle= is specified and not blank.
which ever you prefer for option 1, I can make it happen (seems like |name= is undocumented, and probably not widely used). Frietjes (talk) 20:53, 10 June 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for your immediate response! I was not clear enough, again ;) - The BWV number that should not show is the one below the pic, - there was a concern (talk BWV 103), that this rather technical number appears too often. - Title: I would prefer the "noitalic" version, the other seems to be a bit tricky to explain in the documentation. - Can a specified cantata_cycle not be shown, but be present as metadata (because there's this concern that the box is too long already)? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:04, 10 June 2013 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt, I simply commented out the second one since it is redundant and added |noitalic=. as far as having metadata that doesn't visibly appear in the infobox, it is possible, but would be more challenging to make it work with {{infobox}}. basically, you can wrap anything inside of a ... with style="display:none" and it won't be visible (see the start of this comment). however, you need a place to hang it, which means there will typically be a blank line, or a blank cell in the table, which doesn't really help the situation. if this is seriously needed, I can certainly work on it, but I am sure the meta-data folks would not be happy, since there is a belief that hidden metadata won't be regularly updated, since it isn't visible, and is prone to errors. Frietjes (talk) 21:14, 10 June 2013 (UTC)
Thank you, helped again! Cantata_cycle is not urgent enough ;) - Now how do I code a title with the noitalic option, as in Bach cantata? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:27, 10 June 2013 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt, just type |noitalic=y or |noitalic=true or any non-blank value for that parameter. Frietjes (talk) 21:41, 10 June 2013 (UTC)

Do you know how we could find all infoboxes that use |Image= and |Caption= and change them? -- Magioladitis (talk) 17:22, 16 June 2013 (UTC)
if they are using {{infobox}}, it might be possible to find them there, using the 'parent' parameters in the lua module. I'm not sure if you can get the parent's parent's parameters, but it seems like it may be possible with lua. the more robust alternative to get ones that aren't using infobox would be to search a database dump, but I have never done this before either. Opera

In {{infobox opera}}, can you install the image size as parameter, as in others? Once you are there, the title is not italic, as the documentation says, or did I read that wrong? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:04, 22 June 2013 (UTC)

there is a parameter, called |image_size=. the italic_title feature is for the page title, but I added font-style:italic to the infobox title as well. there are several places where this could probably be added, but this seems to be the safest place to add it. seems like most of the articles are adding the italics manually, so not a big issue. Frietjes (talk) 14:41, 22 June 2013 (UTC)
For some reason, the template seems to alter the title of the page on which it appears, see User Talk:Gerda Arendt/Infobox, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:04, 26 June 2013 (UTC)
yes, that's the |italic title=, you set it to |italic title=no to disable this feature. Frietjes (talk) 20:29, 26 June 2013 (UTC)
that means, if the box is present in an opera article, it renders the page title italic? I missed that, thinking only the title in the box, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:29, 26 June 2013 (UTC)
yes, that's right. can certainly change this to make it default no italic, but that is the way it works right now. Frietjes (talk) 22:32, 26 June 2013 (UTC)

Legislature infobox colours

Hi. Why are you removing all background colours from infoboxes on legislature articles? The parameter has been used for years, and Template:Infobox legislature suggests using the dominant colour of the respective house. So why do you remove all these background colours without any reason given at all? In this edit, you say "unsourced" - what exactly would need a source? I don't see the big deal about colours, in my opinion it gives familiarity to the reader by using the colour of the respective parliament, and for editors it makes it easier to see on which article you are when you are dealing with a lot of legislature articles. Most infoboxes use colours anyway. Thank you, SPQRobin (talk) 21:08, 29 June 2013 (UTC)

(1) the colours can be misleading, since they frequently correspond to the colours for a particular political party, (2) the colours can cause readability issues, and (3) there is almost never a source for the particular colour of the legislature. so, in this case, it is better to go with wp:deviations, which discourages deviating from the default. Frietjes (talk) 14:45, 30 June 2013 (UTC)
(1) These articles are clearly about a legislature and not about a political party. With this reasoning you could say a parliament's website can be misleading when its main colour happens to be one used by a certain political party. (2) I might agree with this, but as I said, colours are so widespread on Misplaced Pages; the colour schemes being used are used on countless other pages. (3) I have never heard of colours requiring a source. Is there a source for The Simpsons using yellow? Parliaments' websites usually have a clear main colour; if not, then we can use the default colour.
I would really appreciate if you do not remove all colours from legislature articles. These colours have always been there and imposing their removal requires broader consensus. Regards, SPQRobin (talk) 00:15, 3 July 2013 (UTC)

Adminship

Hi Frietjes! I stumbled across your talk page just now, and I couldn't help but notice all the requests that you have had to respond to with "that template is fully protected, so there's not much I can do". Well, I think there is something we can do about that. Would you be interested in running for adminship? It would be great to be able to give you access to all of our protected templates, and I promise to write you up a very persuasive nomination statement if you agree to run. Let me know what you think. Best — Mr. Stradivarius 15:58, 2 July 2013 (UTC)

thank you, but not right now. the primary reason being that I probably spend too much time here already, and the "not much I can do" is basically a way of reducing the workload, since I clearly know how to make an edit request. there are also other reasons. it's too bad they don't have a permission level that just allows for editing high-visibility templates. but thank you for the vote of confidence.
