The Zoomer, designation NPS50, is a motorscooter developed by Honda and introduced in Japan and America in late 2002 for the 2003 model year; in Canada and the USA, the scooter is marketed as the Ruckus. The Zoomer differs from more traditional scooters with its rugged design, including fatter tires with deeper tread and a skeletal frame lacking an enclosed storage compartment. The NPS50 share similar motor and drivetrain components with the Honda CHF50.
The Zoomer sold in European countries features a compact, single point programmed fuel injection (PGMFI) system, consisting of a single fuel injector, a different fuel pump arrangement, and an oxygen sensor fitted just before the exhaust silencer.
Honda claims the Ruckus returns 114 miles per US gallon (2.06 L/100 km; 137 mpg‑imp) in EPA tests.
Due to its design speed being greater than 30mph, multiple states classify it as a motorcycle or "motor-driven cycle" and subsequently require a motorcycle license, registration plate, and insurance coverage for operation.
Honda USA describes the Ruckus as looking like it could survive a nuclear blast and come out swinging. But the Ruckus is about way more than just a unique look: Its thrifty 49cc engine gets awesome mileage. It’s Honda V-matic automatic transmission makes for no-shifting, seamless power in and out of traffic. Its electric starter means you just turn a key, push a button, and you’re outta there. Add in Honda’s legendary reliability, and the Ruckus not only a blast—it’s nearly unstoppable.
The appearance of the Ruckus has nothing to hide, and everything to brag about, flaunting its minimalist, all-business, urban-warrior look. With current and available after-market parts for the Ruckus, the 49cc scooter is now highly modifiable.
Aftermarket suppliers of Ruckus parts include names like Mnnthbx, Composimo, Rucksters and PWJDM. The bolt on parts makes the Honda Ruckus one of the most highly modifible scooters. Local companies in the U.S. like The Ruck Shop, Ruck House, Dallas Ruckx and Standard Functions to name a few, build, sell and promote the Ruckus using aftermarket parts making it a customizable scooter.
