It was founded in 1980, and its current president is Ingrid Newkirk.
PETA is well known for aggressive media campaigns and public demonstrations for animal rights, often inciting hostility or ridicule from non-sympathizers. PETA is also noted for occasional terror tactics and acts of physical violence, such as dousing blood or stain on those who wear garments of fur or leather.
