Global Grover is a recurring segment in Sesame Street. In the segments, Grover reminises of his recent "travels" around the world, then shows actual video segments from the countries. Each film features children engaged in activities related to their individual cultures.

According to Sesame Workshop, "Designed to encourage respect and understanding in a kid-friendly way, the segments introduce viewers to new and exciting customs, traditions and daily life abroad. Global Grover takes it one step further, highlighting not only differences but also celebrating what we have in common."

Global Grover has been distributed separately as a 5-minute, 30-episode series, which began airing in fall 2005. Canada's Treehouse TV was among the stations to pick the series up, in November 2005. The series tacks on opening and closing credits, plus an existing animated segment from Sesame Street, to round out the program.

Segment topics

  • Mexico, pottery making
  • Israel, kids from a kibbutz make a play house together
  • Poland, where grandparents teach youngsters how to make scarecrows

Season 36

Grover visits Bangladesh twice the season, because Sesame Workshop was then about to launch a Bangladeshi co-production of the show.

Quotes about the segment/series

"Global Grover uses the power of television to demonstrate the diversity of the world we live in. Children will love seeing how kids like themselves sing, dance, play and learn in their natural environment. And broadcasters will love the rich content and adaptable format." - Jennifer Monier-Williams, Vice President of Global Television Distribution for Sesame Workshop
