He is based in Rotherham, Yorkshire, and widely considered to be one of the best young referees in the league. He has been appointed as a FIFA official.
At the end of the 2005 - 2006 season, he took charge of the FA Trophy Final, a game in which Grays beat Woking 2 - 0.
At the start of the season, he also refereed the FA Community Shield, which saw League winners Chelsea beat FA Cup winners Arsenal 2 - 1.
His first game as a referee in the FA Premier League was in 2003, and in November 2005, he officiated the international friendly between Northern Ireland and Portugal.
