The international community is a phrase with different meanings. It is used in international relations to refer either to a broad group of peoples and governments of the world or, more specifically, the United States and its client states and allies. The term is used to imply the existence of common duties and obligations between countries. Activists, politicians and commentators often use the term, particularly in the context of calls for action to be taken against political repression and to protect human rights.
