Ekk Nayi Pehchaan is an Indian television drama series which premiered on Sony TV on December 23, 2013. The series stars Poonam Dhillon, Krystle D'Souza in the lead roles. The story talks on women empowerment and education through relationships.

The story begins with a well reputed family, Suresh Modi, the owner of a textile company named Sharda Textiles, is at a press conference explaining his brand to the media. On the same lines, at home Sharda is introduced as his wife, hence the name of his company Sharda Textiles. Sharda is illiterate and therefore a house wife. They have two sons and a daughter: Karan, Chirag and Latika. Karan, being eldest, is forcefully told by his father to get married with one of his colleagues' daughter, but Karan is not interested. Sharda goes to Ahmadabad all alone by train, being illiterate, facing many problems and being helped by a girl named Sakshi. They became good friends and she tells Sharda all about her life and even said that she is eloping and marrying her love Aditya. Sakshi also mentions her mother wanting her to marry the son of a good friend of hers, but Sakshi has no intentions of doing an arranged marriage. Aditya calls and says he won't be able to elope with her, leaving Sakshi devastated. Sharda encourages her to do the marriage proposed by her mom, Sakshi agrees to do so. The engagement date for Karan's wedding came and he ran away but came back when he saw his mother's tears. Sharda was shocked to find that Sakshi was her daughter-in-law. Sakshi told Sharda that she will refuse to get married to her other since she believes that Sharda deserves a better daughter-in-law, but Sharda declares her as her daughter-in-law. Therefore Sakshi became happy and promised to try her level best to be a good wife and a daughter-in-law. Whereas Karan is still not happy with happenings and planned that he will not run away from marriage for his mom but he will make the bride say that she doesn't want to get married to him. For this, he even enters her room with a meat knife and tries to scare her. Karan is not at all happy with the engagement. Sharda tries to unite them by telling them to sit in the fresh air outside and talk. Sakshi takes the initiative to start the talk, but all they end up in is a huge argument over dumb matters. On the wedding day, Karan tells Sakshi that they have a Kuldevini Mata, whom they worship whenever its a good occasion. Sakshi believes him and leaves along with him. But instead Karan takes her to a random village and takes her in a room. Innocently he says to her that she must be a little tired after a long journey, so she should wait here while he brings some water for her. He comes out, locks the room from out and leaves for home. When he reaches home, he sees his friend Rajvir Raghuvanshi along with his wife Nandini ( Mahamilan of showsEkk Nayi Pehchaan and Desh Ki Beti Nandini.). When they ask him where is Sakshi, he confesses the truth. Nandini explains him that wife is the one who always has the most trust on her husband and he did a wrong deed by tricking her. He understands the seriousness of the situation when all womenfolk of the house are searching for Sakshi frantically. He goes back to Sakshi. While Sakshi in the room is constantly calling Karan to help her out as there is a wire which is broken and has caught fire.When Karan comes back home he saw that his mother is blamed for absence of Sakshi. Then Karan feels bad and goes back to bring her back.He takes her back to the marriage venue and they get married . After marriage Sakshi decides to tell the truth to Karan . Karan plans to act as he is disappointed with Sakshi, But eventually Sakshi discovers the truth. Sakshi leaves the house, And Karan leaves too, in a fit to look for Sakshi. When Karan finds Sakshi, they share a tight hug. Karan apologizes to Sakshi for hurting her feelings and tells her that he is ready to do anything that would please her. Though Sakshi initially refuses to listen but finally gets convinced when Karan says that some important guests are going to visit their home for dinner and it is not the right time for them to fight. They sort out the issue for the time being and finally enter the house. Later in the evening the guests arrive. Both Karan and Sakshi pretend as if they are very much in love with each other in order to impress Karan's parents. The guests like Sakshi's ideas about the marketing strategies in the business which makes Latika a little jealous. After the guests leave, Chirag complains to his father about the embarrassment caused by Sharada in his college to which Suresh scolds Sharada and warns her not to visit Chirag's college again. Sakshi does not like this as Chirag had put the entire blame on Sharada in an attempt to hide his wrongdoings. Sakshi tries to explain Sharada about the importance of education and encourages her to study for which Sharada refuses. Later in their room, Karan and Sakshi decide that since everything is clear and thus they will not interfere in each others lives. The next morning, on the occasion of Makar Sankranthi everyone is involved in kite flying and Sharada is busy in preparing sweets for everyone. Suresh asks Sakshi to make Karan realize his responsibilities and also to attend office. Sakshi promises that she will make Karan attend the office. Sakshi challenges Karan for a kite flying competition with deal that he has to go to the office if he loses. Karan loses the competition after Sakshi distracts him. One of the employes of Suresh comes to the house to take Sharada's fingerprints. He turns out to be a fraud and this causes a loss of 20 crores to Suresh . The next day Karan makes an excuse by saying that he is not well in order to escape from going to the office and in turn goes to a bike expo. Suresh comes to know about the loss and in anger insults Sharada in front of everyone in the house. Sakshi feels bad about it and this time forces Sharada to study for which Sharada still hesitates by saying that she has gone through that age of learning. In the evening when Karan comes home, he is told about the incident for which he feels bad for his mother and decides to talk to his father about this. When Suresh arrives,Karan goes to talk to him in the parking while Sakshi watches from the balcony. Suresh tells Karan that Sharada has spoiled his image and reputation. He also tells Karan that both he and his mother are good for nothing and do not care about their business empire. He says that if Karan really cared about the business he would have come to the office rather than going to a bike expo and buying an expensive bike using Suresh's credit card. Suresh tells Karan to keep the bike as a wedding gift from him for which Karan refuses and says he does not want the bike. Karan tells Suresh that if he wants to give him any wedding gift then he can do it by giving respect to Sharda. That respect which she highly deserves. Suresh angrily walks away while Sakshi is very impressed with the way Karan rightly stood up for his mother. This also shows that Karan is unlike his family members who always blame Sharada for everything. Sakshi tells Sharda that she has to move ahead in life and should study now but Sharda says no. Suresh says that one can learn things when their heart is soft and not after that.He says no.Sakshi tells Sharda not to lose hope and tells her to get admission and says that after she'll learn she can tell that she had studied and everyone can be happy. Sharda hesitantly agrees. Sharda attends her first class but leaves from there because she is uncomfortable. she sees a girl outside making saree. She helps that girl .The girl says that she will do Sharda's work and Sharda will do hers. Sharda agrees. Karan and Sakshi decide that now everything is normal and they will not interfere in each others life. Sharda tries to tell about the girl to Sakshi but in vain. Pratik, Latika's husband is sad that Latika doesn't have time for him and Diya and she is always busy with office work. The girl whom Sharda met comes to Sharda's house and says that help me today also and come early because today there is lot of work. All family members are shocked along with Sakshi. Sakshi tells Sharda that place was right but wasn't right for Sharda. She then tells that she will ask Suresh. Sakshi asks him that can she send maa to coaching classes and she didn't ask before but she is asking now.He says yes. Sakshi is a little shocked but too exited. Sharda starts to go to classes.Sharda then notices that Karan and Sakshi are fighting again and asks Sakshi to meet her after her class. Outside the class Sakshi and Karan are surprised to find each other and they start arguing again. Sharda comes after her class and says that she has called them both and tells them to start new life with each other as strangers and both of them agree. In their room Karan and Sakshi say hi to each other like stranger. Sharda has got homework to wright an essay about herself and is tensed wondering if she can do this. Suresh notices it and asks about her problem. She tells him and he says that he will wright for her and she can memorize it.She feels happy. In their room Karan asks Sakshi her name but she says that she doesn't talk to strangers and he should find it himself and she further tells that he should impress her and then only she will say her name. Karan impresses Sakshi. She is about to go but stops and tells her name as Simran and Karan says his name as Raj. He tells her to at least give her real number but she tells him that he should impress her more. Sharda tells Sakshi About the essay and Sakshi tells that nothing in the essay is about her. Sharda tells her that Suresh wrote it for her with love. Next day Sakshi with her friend indirectly makes Sharda realizes that she has many talents. Diya says to that she wants new dress for her school function. Latika asks Diya that why she told about it to Sakshi but not to her. Diya says that Latika is busy always and doesn't have time for her so she told it to Sakshi. To make Diya happy Latika says that she will definitely bring a nice dress for Diya. Sakshi is with her friends in a restaurant. She says to them that Karan should impress her and then only she would give him her number. Just then Karan comes inside the restaurant where Sakshi is and one of her friend says that she told Karan where they hangout. Sakshi get frustrated and says that she always tells everyone's secret. Karan says that he felt like James Bond while following her and Sakshi says that she knows how he reached there and says that she won't give her number. Karan sit on the table next to them and via waiter he gives Sakshi a chocolate box and a rose along with a small card asking her number. She signals him that she wont give her number. Sakshi and her friends are about to go when some boys come to them and says that at least give them her number. Karan gets angry and fights with them and till then Sakshi and her friends are gone. Karan says to himself that he worked hard and reached till here and also fought like a hero but still she didn't give her number to him. Just then a waiter comes and gives him a tissue paper and says that Sakshi told to give it to him. He sees it and is happy because it has Sakshi's number. He sends message to Sakshi. Sakshi is at home and is about to read the message but her phone's battery is dead. Karan is angry that she didn't yet reply and says that she has attitude. He comes home angrily and sleeps on the couch in their room and Sakshi wonders what happened to him. Next morning Sakshi sees that Karan has send a message to her and realizes why he got angry the day before. Sakshi indirectly via Sharda tells karan that her phone's battery was dead and says that she is sorry. Karan nods as to say yes and Sharda tells that she already forgave her. Sakshi is happy. She realizes something and brings Diya's dress which Sharda had made. Everyone appreciates her and she tells that she made it just for backup if Latika forgets to bring it. Its late for Diya's function and Latika didn't come yet so Sakshi makes Diya wear a dress which Sharda had made and Diya loves the dress. Latika is angry at Sakshi for making her wear the dress and says than you in a very aggressive manner. Sakshi gets hurt by this and Sharda tells her that it's ok. While Karan is in office Sakshi messages to him saying that she is sorry but Karan replies as 'you are only sorry and nothing else'. Sakshi messages and asks him what should she do for him to forgive her and he replies that she should do what he wants and only then he would forgive her. She replies that she will think but Karan replies that she won't be able to do it. She says that at least try to say what he wants her to do. Just then Suresh notices Karan and says that he shouldn't chat during office and should concentrate more on his duties. Karan messages to Sakshi that he is busy and he can't chat now. Sakshi understands it. Daadi's leg gets hurt and she asks for help and Sharda helps her by ayurvedic means and her pain reduces. Doctor comes to do the rest and appreciate Sharda for making her easy to treat. Sakshi is amazed to know that Sharda has too many talents and thinks that Sharda can write this in her essay. For certain days the family notice that Diya is getting very hungry often and is wetting her bed. Sakshi and Sharda take her to the doctor and he says Diya is diagnosed with juvenile diabetes and everyone gets heartbroken. Pratik criticizes Latika for not taking care of Diya. Latika realizes that she wasn't a good mother and starts crying. Suresh scolds Sharda for harming Diya.During this time Latika and Pratik are angry at each other. Fui, who is suresh's mom comes to meet them. When she gets to know that Sharda is studying she tries to separate her and Sakshi. Sakshi gets to know this and throw's Fui out of the hows without anyone knowing and she tells everyone excuse as she has to take care of her house and leaves. Latika and Pratik are separated but didn't take divorce which they are planning to do.Sakshi and Sharda try to make them understand each other's feelings and are succeeded. Now Latika and Pratik are living together. When Sharda and Diya are going to their classes they are about to get hit by a car but are saved by a young man,who is later revealed to be Aditya, Sakshi's boyfriend with whom she was about to run away. He tells Sakshi that he wants to live with her but she denies.
