The Anti racism demonstration in Kärrtorp 2013 was held on 15 and 22 December 2013 in Kärrtorp, Sweden. The demonstration was organized by the activist network Linje 17.
Named after the subway line that passes through Kärrtorp, the demonstrations on 15 December 2013 made national and international headlines after several people were beaten and hunted down by presumed racist groups, and nazi symbols were painted in several locations, notably the area high school and sports facilities in Kärrtorp. Some demonstrators including children and old people were injured. Police presence was minimal comprising of only six officers as the police greatly underestimated the risks. A group of 30 to 40 men from the Swedish resistance movement armed with sticks and bottles and members of the Revolutionary front went on to attack back the racists in retaliation. There were many injuries and 28 were arrested by the Swedish police.
As a further protest to the initial attacks during the original demonstrations, Linje 17 called for a new demonstration for 22 December 2013. With the expectation of a much higher turnout, the venue was changed to the sports stadium in Kärrtorp. The demonstrators then marched from Kärrtorp Centrum. The participants on this day was estimated at approximately 16,000. as a token of solidarity and support, a similar manifestation was held in Helsinki on 22 December.
The anti-racism demonstrations in Kärrtorp created great interest in the rest of Sweden and many other anti-racism manifestations were held in 25 other locations throughout Sweden. The international media outlets also covered the events.
