Terminology is a terminal emulator for the X Window System and for the Wayland graphic server. The software can also run in a framebuffer console that allows it to be used outside an X11 or Wayland graphic environment. It can be used in different desktop environments, not only with the Enlightenment window manager.

Terminology provides some features not typically found in a terminal emulator, e.g., preview thumbnails of images, videos and documents. It can work with multimedia playback and text-strings manipulation (copying and pasting filenames and urls), and can be touch controlled.
