Venod Sharma (born January 10, 1948) is an Indian politician who was a leader of Indian National Congress party from Haryana before he resigned in . He was a Minister of State in the Ministry of Civil Supplies, Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution at in the P.V. Narasimha Rao cabinet (inducted 1995).

Venod Sharma is currently the MLA of Ambala city.

Early life

Born in Doraha, a city of Ludhiana, Venod Sharma is the son of Pandit Kedar Nath Sharma.

Political career

Venod Sharma has a political career of more than 40 years and has served both in the Central and state governments. In the year 1978 Venod Sharma’s political career started as the general secretary of Indian youth Congress. Later, Venod Sharma became the General Secretary of Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee.

From 1978 to 1983 Venod Sharma held various positions in Congress. He was President of Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee and a special invitee to the Congress working committee. In the year, 1980 Venod Sharma fought elections for the first time from Banur Legislative Seat in Punjab. Venod Sharma also held the position of the President of Chandigarh Union Territory Congress Committee for 10 years.


After realizing that the Congress party has moved away from it’s agenda, Venod Sharma quit the party on March 5, 2014. Initially, he was keen to join HJC but dropped the idea in the face of resistance from BJP. On 23rd June 2014, Venod Sharma found Haryana Janchetna Party (V).

Personal life

Venod Sharma is married to Smt. Shakti Rani Sharma and has three children (two sons and one daughter). Venod Sharma is the son of Pandit Kedar Nath Sharma.
