help regarding need for citations

Hi, I don't know if you have time, but I could use your help. There is an argument over at Talk:Programming language about the use of fact tags. My opponents say I used them too often and that they are a "random disruption". I am trying to explain to them that we need a citation on every fact, as you told me, to reach FA status. Is there any way you could look in and help me convince them that we need citations even on statements they consider obvious? Thanks. Ideogram 23:05, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your comments on Talk:Programming language, but I don't think you made sufficiently clear what level of citation is required for a Featured Article. Ideogram 06:54, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

Not to sound rude....

But may I ask why are you still opposing the Velociraptor article in its FAC?? I & other editors have fixed all of your concerns, such as deleting the Jurrassic Park picture, deleting the Time cover & everything else you mentioned. May you please explain? Thanks, Spawn Man 23:15, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

thanks

Hi Ambuj - many thanks! the day was especially important for personal reasons. Technically, I have existed for 20 years and 9 months. And individual molecules have existed in different forms for ???? Knowledge too has no age - I learn a lot from younger bloks, while I can impart some knowledge to those elder to me. Rama's Arrow 16:29, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

IITs

I started giving the article a general copyedit, but I'm running short of time, so I won't be able to finish today. I got all the way to the "Education" section, but I'm slightly concerned about weasel words in the "Reservations" section of the article. Try to put a name (or at least a party) to all the relevant criticism, just to be sure. I also sprinkled a few {{citation needed}} templates that need fixing. Titoxd 00:07, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

Userpage edits

I figured you didn't work for AOL's call department(most mechanical engineers don't), so I doubted the IP that edited your userpage to replace it with that information was you. They've done it twice now. Be sure to watch your userpage for vandalism in case it is not caught and reverted like this time. Kevin_b_er 07:15, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

That was a lot of vandalism. I will keep a lookout. — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 07:22, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

I had changed his name. If he had recreated OMEN again and asked an admin to permanently block the account as per the rules, it is ok. If not recreated, the username is now available, so if anyone creates it, they might remove the redirects. =Nichalp «Talk»= 18:34, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

Hindi wiki

Thanks, Ambuj. One important task right now is to have a more friendly and personalized welcome message. Can you look at my version of the welcome message (hi:Template:स्वागत), and the detailed templated made by User:Magicalsaumy, to come up with a friendly and personalized message, that still covers (or provides links to) all the important information needed by a newcomer? That would be a significant contribution. It would be great if you can also look at hi: विकिपीडिया:स्वागत, and complete it. Regards, deeptrivia (talk) 18:37, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for your vote in my RFA, which succeeded with a final tally of 66-0-4. If there's anything I can help you with now that I'm an admin, please let me know on my talk page. Again, thanks! Mangojuice 20:53, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

Nc images

I wasn't aware that nc images weren't allowed on wiki. I had written "Attribution-NonCommercial 2.0" in the summary of the article, and selected the attribution licence (I thought they were the same). OMG, this means I must've uploaded other images too in this manner! (Am off to check right now! ) Thanks for notifying me about this. Tagging them all for speedy deletion. Thanks again! -- thunderboltz05:02, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

A similar image that I uploaded was marked {{Noncommercial}}. I've changed the licence of all these to non commercial rather than prod-ing it, and have removed it from existing pages. -- thunderboltz05:54, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
Also, if what I've looked up is correct, this non commercial rule came into effect only on May 19th. Most of the images I've uploaded (including the Vallam kali pic) are prior to that period. Only nc images uploaded after May 19th are speedy deleted. -- thunderboltz06:06, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
To clarify- The catch is new images will be speedily deleted and older will go through IFD to determine if they fall under "Fair-use". — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 06:09, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

"India" and "Indian"

Hi - I've had some detailed talks with user:Spasage on the sensitive issue of national identity between India, Bangladesh and Pakistan. We've come up with some ideas on how to resolve the problem, through a disambiguation page for both "India" and "Indian." Obviously its a big move, so please weigh in here. नमस्ते, श्री सक्सेना। Thanks for your the clarification. No hard feelings - I realize that I am unable to please everybody. :-) If I don't get become admin, I figure I can run again in three months so that by that time I can be acceptable to at least almost everybody. I do believe I am familiar with Misplaced Pages. In any case, if you have any suggestions on how I may improve, I am open to hear them. Thanks for the congrats. क्रिस aka Chris S. 20:09, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

Pakistan article

If you look in the history, someone made an obscene attack on you which had to be reverted.Blnguyen | rant-line 05:23, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

It was an AOL IP, so it was probably the same vandal who keeps trying to change your user and talk pages. I still have your talk/user page watchlisted as I don't think the vandal is going away any time soon, their IP changes, and they create sockpuppets. Kevin_b_er 05:28, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
Ya. I could see the pattern. Don't worry, such people don't have much patience. He will soon move over to greener pastures. — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 05:31, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

Ah, thanks. I hadn't noticed the vandalism as my watchlist doesn't show bot edits - except fro Tawkerbot for some reason. I also locked the Pakistan article.Blnguyen | rant-line 06:44, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

Sorry I hadn't noticed earlier, for the notoriety graph, I used User:Tangotango's tool to count which were the times when I did my milestone edits - 100 200 300, etc. and then I manually counted the edits made to my talk page. Thanks, Blnguyen | rant-line 04:03, 17 July 2006 (UTC).

My RfA

Hi, I would like to express my gratitude for your participation at my recent RfA. The final vote was 68/21/3 and resulted in me becoming an admin!

For those of you who supported my RfA, I highly appreciate your kind words and your trust in me. For those who opposed - many of you expressed valid concerns regarding my activity here; I will make an effort in addressing them as time goes on while at the same time using my admin tools appropriately. So, salamat, gracias, merci, ありがとう, спасибо, धन्यवाद, 多謝, agyamanak unay, شكرًا, cảm ơn, 감사합니다, mahalo, ขอบคุณครับ, go raibh maith agat, dziękuję, ευχαριστώ, Danke, תודה, mulţumesc, გმადლობთ, etc.! If you need any help, feel free to contact me.

PS: I took the company car (pictured left) out for a spin, and well... it's not quite how I pictured it. --Chris S. 23:48, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

Bot Complaint

I've looked over your complaint about my bot. You certainly have a legitimate point. It should not be fixing commented sections. Still, the bot did achieve something in editing the page in question (check the bottom, it subst'ed a template). I'm not really sure what to do to prevent that problem from coming up, but I will look into it. I would appreciate any suggestions that you might have. Please comment on my talk page to acknowledge receipt. Alphachimp 14:54, 14 July 2006 (UTC)
