Gilbert William "Gil" Gutknecht, Jr. (born March 20 1951), is an American politician. Gutknecht has been a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives since 1995, representing Minnesota's First Congressional District (map). He was born in Cedar Falls, Iowa, and graduated with a degree in business from the University of Northern Iowa. He was a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives from 1982 to 1994 before entering Congress.

Gutknect has announced that he will run for re-election in 2006, despite a promise when first elected that he would never serve more than 12 years, saying then "if I ever break this contract, throw me out." His opponent is Tim Walz (DFL - Mankato).

He recently announced, after returning from Iraq, the U.S should withdraw troops as soon as possible from Iraq.
