KPBI-CA is a Class-A low power television station in Fort Smith, Arkansas, broadcasting on channel 46 as an affiliate of the Fox network. The station is owned by Equity Broadcasting and is referred to on the air as Fox Arkansas. Like many Equity stations, KPBI-CA is controlled remotely via satellite from Equity's headquarters in Little Rock, Arkansas, and is relayed in encrypted form via the satellite Galaxy 10R (Ku-band transponder 21).
With the proposed split of KFTA/KNWA in the fall, after which KFTA is supposed to become the Fox affiliate, it appears KPBI-CA's days as the Fox affiliate are numbered; however, Equity has made no announcement as to the future of KPBI-CA. Whether this is due to uncertainty about the KFTA/KNWA split or Equity's nationwide reluctance to join The CW is unknown. To date, Equity's only move in this market has been to sign KFDF-CA (UPN) with My Network TV; Equity also owns KWFT (WB), but like KPBI-CA, its fate is unknown. Since KPBI-CA and KWFT are The CW's only over-the-air options in this market, it is still entirely possible that one or both could join it; Equity-owned Retro Television Network is also an option.
