Revision as of 11:15, 9 August 2006 by Kwame Nkrumah (talk | contribs)(diff) ← Previous revision | Latest revision (diff) | Newer revision → (diff)The 2006/2007 Serie A Season, while originally scheduled to start around the end of August 2006, will now start on September 10 due to the 2006 match-fixing scandal.
Initially, Juventus, Fiorentina and Lazio were all relegated to Serie B due to the Calciopoli findings, whereas A.C. Milan were deducted 15 points but were not relegated, and consequently Lecce, Messina and Treviso, originally slated for relegation to Serie B, were to have been retained in Serie A to keep the table at 20 teams.
As a result of the appeals lodged by Fiorentina, Juventus, Lazio and Milan, Fiorentina and Lazio have been reinstated to the Serie A but with 19 points and 11 points deductions for each team respectively. Milan's points reduction was reduced to only 8 points. Juventus will remain relegated to Serie B with a points deduction of 17. Lecce and Treviso return to Serie B, while Messina provisionally remains in Serie A to replace Juventus, pending further appeals.
However, there is another ongoing inquiry involving Messina, Lecce, Reggina, Siena and Serie B team Arezzo.
According to the sentences, the 2006/2007 Serie A will be composed as follows:
