The European Forest Institute is an international independant centre for forestry research based in Joensuu, Finland.

The institute was established by the European states: Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Norway, Romania, Spain, Sweden. There are over 130 member organisations and institutions, which are based all over Europe, and 7 project centres. EFI is described as offering "the best forest research contacts and acknowledged collaboration at the European level"
