According to the Deng Feng County Recording (Deng Feng Xian Zhi), a Buddhist monk name Batuo came to China for the preaching of Nikaya Buddhism in AD 464.
Thirty-one years later, in 495, the Shaolin Temple was built by the order of Emperor Xiaowen of Northern Wei (reigned 471-500 AD) for Batuo's preaching. There is also no record of how or when Batuo died.
Among the students of Batuo were Sengchou und Huiguang.
