Etymology

There are an ancient human habitation and the ancient cemetery in the territory of the village and were discovered the natural stone ram figures in the that cemetery. According to the some researchers, the real name of the village is Nuhəcər. The name was made up with components of the words of "Nuh" (Noah) and the Persian word "cir" (slope, sloping place) means "the slope of Noah". Those researchers are based on a widespread legend about Noah in the Nakhchivan. Also one of the common reason is the locating the Nəhəcir (Nahajir) rock in nearby of the popular mountain of the Gamigaya. In the Nakhchivan, the place names of the Nuhdaban (Noah's heel), Nuhun qayası (Noah's rock), Nuhun mağarası (Noah's cave) and etc. are associated with the Nuhəcir toponym. But some researchers are sharing the opinion that the name is the distortion form of the name of Nəxcir (Nakhjir). In the Arabic language, nəxcir means "wild goats, hunting animals, prey". According those researchers that meaning is related with the figures of the natural rams in the territory of the village.
