Handover - The transfer of sovereignty of Hong Kong, a former British crown colony, from UK to China (Peking)* in 1997. After the Handover Hong Kong has become a special administrative region, a provincial-level division. It is also used to refer to the transfer of sovereignty of Macao from Portugal to China (Peking) in 1999. It is also used to refer to transfer of power of former colonies to the local people, especially the former British colonies.
