Hannah Montana is an American children's television series which made its debut on Friday, March 24, 2006. Miley Cyrus stars as Miley Stewart/Hannah Montana, who lives a double life as a normal 14-year-old girl at school during the day and a famous pop star (Hannah Montana) at night, hiding her secret from the public. The show is co-created by Michael Poryes, who also co-created another hit Disney Channel Original Series That's So Raven and is produced by It's a Laugh Productions, Inc., in association with Disney Channel.
The series premiere scored record ratings for Disney Channel: 5.4 million viewers, a response "beyond our wildest expectations," according to the president of Disney Channel Entertainment. Miley Cyrus stated on Good Morning America that the second season will start production in November.
It was said by Disney Channel that Miley Cyrus is the biggest Disney Channel Star to date, beating out other competitors such as Hilary Duff, Raven-Symoné, and Dylan and Cole Sprouse. The show is also the biggest Disney Channel Original Series to date, beating out the previous #1 Disney Channel Original Series, That's So Raven. The Hannah Montana Soundtrack was the first Disney Channel Original Series Soundtrack to debut #1 on the Billboards.

Template:Spoiler The series is set in modern day Malibu, California. The show centers on Miley Stewart's (Miley Cyrus) life as a student at an average middle school, when she is not working as famous pop star Hannah Montana. However, the only people who know her secret are her father, her brother, her grandmother, her two best friends, her bodyguard, and a revolving guest cast of costumers, security guards, and the like. She lives in a house by the beach with her father Robby (Billy Ray Cyrus) and 16-year-old brother Jackson (Jason Earles). The Stewarts are Tennessee transplants. Jackson and Miley's mother died when they were younger, leaving singer-songwriter Robby a widower and the sole caretaker of their children, giving up his previous career as a famous country singer. He is also the disguised manager of Hannah Montana. Miley's two best friends Lilly Truscott (Emily Osment) and Oliver Oken (Mitchel Musso) also live nearby and attend school with her. Each episode deals with adolescent life issues, personal conflicts, or problems that are easily solved, with lessons learned by the show's end. Seasonal events in the series correlate with the actual seasonal events of the original airdate. Recently, the episodes began forming on a saga of Miley trying to get Jake to go out with her. The series' working title was The Idol Life, but was later changed to Hannah Montana. Other names considered for the title were The Secret Life of Zoe Stewart, and The Popstar Life!. Former American Juniors finalist Jordan McCoy, pop and R&B singer JoJo (who rejected the role), and actress Alyson Stoner were considered for the role of Zoe Stewart. Miley Cyrus originally auditioned for the role of the "best friend" Lilly Romero, later changed to Lilly Truscott, but they thought she would be better for the main character, so she tried out for Zoe Stewart/Hannah Montana, changed to Miley Stewart when she got the part.
When the show was in the process of getting written there were 3 working names for Hannah Montana they were the follwing: Ana CaBana, Samantha York, and Alexis Texas. The writer was intended to use Alexis Texas but thought it would overrate Texas as a "hillbilly" state so before the pilot was shot they switched it to "Hannah Montana"
Music
"Just Like You" and "The Other Side of Me" were originally tested for the opening theme song, but it was changed to "Best of Both Worlds," performed by Miley Cyrus (as Hannah Montana). The song's lyrics describe the basic premise of the television series. The style of music in the series is country and pop rock.
The television soundtrack was released on October 24, 2006 by Walt Disney Records and debuted at #1 on Billboard200. It includes many of the songs featured in the series. Breaking a record on the Hot 100, the album debuted six singles on the chart -- the most by an artist in one week.
