This page provides a style sheet for episodes of Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis. The idea is to get all Stargate episodes to follow the same conventions, look the same way, and include the same information.

See also: WikiProject Television episodes

Title

See Misplaced Pages:Naming conventions (television)#Episode articles.

Whenever linking to an episode article or mentioning it in a page, enclose the title of the episode in "quotation marks" (no italics!). e.g. Template:Sgcite. You can also use the template {{sgcite}} to make episode links quickly:

Code Which gives
{{sgcite|The Brotherhood|SGA}}
Template:Sgcite

Multipart episodes

Multipart episodes with the same name should appear as one article. That is, do not link or create articles with (Part 1), (Part 2) in the title. e.g. Template:Sgcite which is a two-part episode each with the same name, comes under one article (and the article itself has subsections for Part 1 and Part 2).

Multipart episodes with different titles (e.g. Template:Sgcite (Part 1), Template:Sgcite (Part 2)) should go under different articles. In short, article splitting is by name.

General note: write a part number like this:

"Episode Title (Part 1)" or "Episode Title" (Part 1)

Don't use: "Episode Title, Part 1" or any roman numerals; i.e. don't use "Episode Title (Part II)".

Episode infobox

This infobox is placed at the top of every episode article. Any fields you don't know should be left blank.

| Season = 1

Introduction

The first thing on the page after the infobox should the announcer line that says "This article is about an episode called..." There is a template that simplifies this. After the infobox, add:

Code Which gives
{{TVep|Children of the Gods|Stargate SG-1}}
Template:TVep

You can follow this up with a little basic information on what the episode is about. In some cases, if the episode holds some special significance, such as introducting a character, containing a major showdown, or being very well- or poorly-received by fans, this should be mentioned in the introduction.

An excellent example of an introduction follows:

Template:TVep The title refers to a campy fictional science fiction series named Wormhole X-Treme! that is portrayed in the episode. This was the 100th episode of Stargate SG-1, and as such was produced as a "special" episode laden with large numbers of in-jokes and cameo appearances.

Plot Summary

The introduction is often followed by a basic plot summary, which comes under the subheading "Plot". The "Plot" section should be headed by a spoiler warning. The favoured type is to use the {{sgspoiler}} template, which is thus:

Code Which gives
{{sgspoiler|2}}
Template:Sgspoiler

Obviously, you replace the "2" with what season the episode is from.

The "Plot" section should not be an exhastive list of everything that has happened in the episode, but instead a succinct synopsis of the important elements of the plot. Special attention should be paid to character and conflict development and how the episode relates to previous and future episodes.

If the episode is a multipart one, then split the "Plot" subsection into further subsections entitled "Part 1" and "Part 2".

  • A good example of an episode summary is "Thirty-Eight Minutes", which discusses basic character development and also notes the episode's connection to "Rising".

External links

This is a very important section, see WP:Verify, to maintain Misplaced Pages's reliability, and to allow other editors to check your work. Except for episodes which have not yet been shown (or for some other reason do not yet have a published transcript on the internet anywhere you can find), you should be sure to include a link to at least one transcript. Other good things to link to are summaries, reviews, episode guides, etc. (In the case of a future episode, try to find spoilers).

Some good sources:

  • Stargatefan which has links to transcripts for the first 8 seasonz of Stargate SG-1 all on one page, both ones at its own site and ones at StargateWiki. Note that just because it doesn't have a link doesn't mean StargateWiki doesn't have it.
  • StargateWiki which I have found has an almost complete collection of transcripts for Stargate SG-1. They also have episode guides.
  • Moon-catching which I have found has transcripts even for episodes that these other sites, inlcuding StargateWiki, don't have transcripts for. Includes transcripts for both Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis.
  • GateWorld which has summaries, reviews, transcripts, spoilers, and other things. Note that what is available varies widely by episode. Includes both SG-1 and Atlantis.

Other sections

Following the plot summary, several (optional) sections may follow. These include:

  • "Quotes" section
  • "Trivia" section
    • Significance, discussing the episode's overall contribution to the Stargate mythology (character developments, shifts of power)
    • Trivia, adding some interesting facts about the episode that would not be appropriate for the introduction or summary
    • Controversy, if the episode is particularly divisive among fans or introduces an element that has met with a harsh fan reaction or that violates continuity (this could apply to Sam's boyfriend Pete Shanahan, for example).
    • This would also be a good place to mention if fans generally loved or hated the episode (use GEOS or Gateworld for this, don't decide yourself!) and why.
  • "References" section
  • "External links" section - see above

If the page is a bit thin, add {{stargate-episode-stub}} at the end of the article.

Writing Style

Try to make plot summaries in episode articles (especially premieres, finales, and multi-part episodes) sound more authoritative/encyclopedic. Try to be careful to avoid original research and bias.

Readymade Code to Copy and Paste

Single-part episodes:

{{Infobox Television episode | Title = Episode Title
| Series = ]
| Season = 1
| Episode = 1
| Airdate = ], ]
| Production = xxx
| Writer = ] and ]
| Director = ]
| Guests = Actor as ]<br /> Actor as ]
| Image = ]
| Episode list = ]
| Prev = ]
| Next = ]
}}
{{TVep|Episode Title|Stargate SG-1}}
== Plot ==
{{sgspoiler|1}}
== Quotes ==
== Notes ==
* Point 1
* Point 2
== External links ==
*
{{stargate-episode-stub}}

Two-part single-article episodes:

{{Infobox Television episode | Title = Episode Title
| Series = ]
| Season = 1
| Episode = 1
| Airdate = ], ]
| Production = xxx
| Writer = ] and ]
| Director = ]
| Guests = Actor as ]<br /> Actor as ]
| Image = ]
| Episode list = ]
| Prev = ]
| Next = ]
}}
{{TVep|Episode Title|Stargate SG-1|multipart=yes}}

=== Part 1 ===
=== Part 2 ===
== Quotes ==
== Notes ==
* Point 1

== External links ==

{{stargate-episode-stub}}

Single-article episodes that are part of a multipart progression. In this case, episode 1 of 3:

{{Infobox Television episode | Title = Episode Title
| Series = ]
| Season = 1
| Episode = 1
| Airdate = ], ]
| Production = xxx
| Writer = ] and ]
