It began on October 31, 2006 and will run through April 18, 2007. The league will field 30 teams, separated by two conferences and six divisions. The NBA Playoffs will follow the regular season, beginning on April 21, 2007, and continue through the NBA Finals in June.
Notable occurrences
- The All-Star Game will be played at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, marking the first time the event will be held in a non-NBA city and on a college campus (the University of Nevada, Las Vegas).
- For the second straight year, the Hornets will play a split home schedule between New Orleans, Louisiana and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
- A new design for the official NBA game ball was revealed on June 28, 2006, the same day of the NBA Draft. This new ball will be used from this season.
- Four NBA teams participated in the NBA Europe Live Tour, going 6-2 total against European teams.
