Survivor: Edge of Extinction is the upcoming 38th season of the American competitive reality television series Survivor, to air on CBS. The season will feature 14 new contestants competing with four returning players. It was the seventh season to be filmed in Fiji, and marks the 12th season to feature returning players.
Production
This season introduces a new mechanic, wherein contestants who are voted off the island have a choice to instead take a boat to an area known as the "Edge of Extinction" rather than leave the game permanently. The area is a desolate, abandoned beach with even fewer amenities; contestants are eventually given opportunities to re-enter the main game, but may also choose to leave permanently by flying the white flag on a broken ship mast. The non-eliminated contestants will initially be unaware of this twist. Host Jeff Probst explained that the "Extinction Island" concept was the result of a goal to "try to get a little deeper psychologically, a little deeper spiritually", asking contestants, "is there a possibility of the spiritual death and rebirth that you seek in life, where you realize something deeper about yourself?"
Contestants
The 14 new contestants include educator Ron Clark.
