Bangladesh image use
hi, what is the official policy on image use in Bangladesh. There are tags for Indian-PD and Pak public domain images in Misplaced Pages, but none for Bangladesh and I wish to upload some old images and want to know the laws. Do u have any idea on this? Idleguy 06:05, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

Portal:Bangladesh
Hi Ragib bhai. Could you create two separate templates for portal:Bangladesh. I have no idea about these. So please try it. At the moment all the features overlapped each other and its like a bit of Ho-jo-bo-ro-lo now.Tarif from Bangladesh 16:16, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

Help needed
Hi Ragib,
I need a little help with Bengali langauge. I am having trouble typing "Mukherjee". When typed, it renders as: মুখর্জী। The 'rr' is coming over 'জ', while it should actually come after the 'I'. How do I rectify this. — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 06:59, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
- Actually, I don't understand what the problem. If you add the "rr" (called "ref" in Bangla), it is supposed to go over the previous consonant. So, here, the ref is correctly coming over জ rather than the ী. So, the correct rendering of the word is মুখার্জী. --Ragib 00:59, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
- If you think that is correct then there is no problem. I may have been misled as when we write in Hindi, the correct rendering is "मुखर्जी" (notice the location of 'ref' here). Thanks anyway, — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 17:40, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
- I guess it's a script issue ... i.e. Hindi and Bengali have different ways of doing this :) --Ragib 17:49, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
Talk:Vidya Balan
Dude, I have to agree with Bharatveer there. Zora has a nasty habit of making extremely annoying accusations of "political ploys"/"censorship"/"perpetrating massacre" . You know bothering him only pisses him off more. You may also note, that Deepujoseph agrees with him fully there. Its not like Zora has a real argument. Her argument in simple terms is: "you guys are anti-Muslim". I cant speak for bharat, but deepu and I certainly are not, and neither is Bharatveer unless prodded to get pissed.Bakaman Bakatalk 03:45, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
Marakkar Stamp
The Stamp you deleted from the Marakkalage page was not put there for its philatelic value. It was there to illustrate what a Marakkar looks like.
Do you have any other reason for removing it ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 222.165.178.163 (talk • contribs)
- That exactly is the reason why it was removed. A stamp cannot be used for any other purpose than to illustrate the stamp itself. In other words, you cannot use a stamp to illustrate the subject depicted in the stamp. It is ok if the stamp is used in a philatelic article on the stamp itself. See Fair use criteria. Thanks. --Ragib 16:00, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
Thank you Ragib for your reply but I have gone through the above Fair use criteria and can't find anything that says "A stamp cannot be used for any other purpose than to illustrate the stamp itself. In other words, you cannot use a stamp to illustrate the subject depicted in the stamp. It is ok if the stamp is used in a philatelic article on the stamp itself.". No other image of that type of boat is availabel either. What do you suggest ? --124.43.221.101 12:05, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
- See further at Category:Fair use stamp images. Thanks. --Ragib 16:37, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
Img Help
I uploaded Image:Satveer Chaudhary.jpg for the Satveer Chaudhary page. Am I doing it right?Bakaman Bakatalk 00:19, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
- To the best of my knowledge, work done by US Federal employees as part of their job is in the public domain. The source of the image indicates it is so, therefore, it should be in the public domain. Thanks. --Ragib 00:21, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
- Alright. Its just the first one I uploaded so I was unsure of all the rules and stuff.Bakaman Bakatalk 00:24, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

This deletion will hopefully be noncontroversial. Please delete all the cats with the name "brahmin" in it. Since you are a sysop, you can do it. For reference see Wikipedia_talk:Notice_board_for_India-related_topics/archive18#Caste_lists_vs._Caste_cats. Thanks.Bakaman Bakatalk 16:03, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
- Actually, you can do that after the article has been unprotected. It is unethical to edit an article using admin privileges while it is protected. Once the protection has been removed, I'll do what you've suggested above. Thanks. --Ragib 20:02, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

External links on Carnatic music
Hi Ragib, there have been some repeated attempts of inclusion of links to commercial websites and forum websites (owned by one of the editors of Carnatic music). I have been sort of battling these incusions which violate WP policy on conflict of interest. This user complained to WP:PAIN and the ruling found no cause for action against me. However I might have inadvertantly breached WP:3RR during the last 24 hours when removing these links. I would like to assure you that this was not an attempt of edit/revert warring with the other users, but a genuine desire to cleanup the mess. I'd like your opinion/advise regarding what action I need to take. - Parthi 23:14, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
Suranjit Sengupta
This look right at all? শোরোন্জিত সেন্গুপ্তো . I'm using a transliteration program for Hindi, and wanted to see if it worked for Bengali. I need your eyes because cant check myself on Bangla tho, for obvious reasons (the problem with me not being able to read it). The input I put in the program was "Shoronjit Sengupta".Bakaman Bakatalk 01:26, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
- The correct Bangla name is: সুরঞ্জিৎ সেনগুপ্ত. The স is pronounced here as sh. thanks. --Ragib 01:37, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
- In my trans program the bangla script actually shows up. I dont have SP2 so it doesnt show up in my browser (all I see in the browser is question marks). Can you add the correct script to the article?Bakaman Bakatalk 01:41, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
- Please check out http://bangla.org.bd . It has a transliterator form. Even if you don't have the fonts, you can type in, and then click on view as image to see how the unicode will look like in a configured system. Thanks. --Ragib 01:48, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
Bangla transliteration/transcription
Hey Ragib,
After the discussions on the use of vernacular scripts on wikipedia pages, I am looking to replace these, as far as possible with an appropriate transcription and transliteration (IPA or ITRANS). Unfortunatetly, I haven't been able to find a universally acceptable table for Bangla transcription - could you help me out here? Thanks. Gamesmaster G-9 17:57, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
- I think User:SameerKhan can help you with this (he's a linguist, so can do the IPA very well). As for non-Indian bios, especially Bangladeshi bio pages, there is actually no problem with the Bangla script (since Bangla is virtually the Only script used in Bangladesh). Thanks. --Ragib 18:01, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
Jamuna Bridge
Is that the same as "Bangabandhu Bridge"? I read about a Bangabandhu bridge in a book on Bangladesh somewhere, and the purpose sounds similar to the Jamuna bridge.Bakaman Bakatalk 00:11, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, it is named as the "Bangabandhu bridge". The official name is "Bangabandhu Jamuna Bridge", though it is commonly referred to as just the Jamuna Bridge. Thanks. --Ragib 08:46, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
