Shortcuts Guild of Copy Editors' requests page

On this page, you can request that the Guild of Copy Editors copy-edit specific articles.

Instructions for requesters

To make a request, remove any existing {{copy edit}} tags from the article, then click this button and follow the instructions:

Manual instructions (if the button doesn't work)

To make a request, add your article, using the following format, to the bottom of this page:

===]===
Your comments ~~~~

Please remove any existing {{copy edit}} tags from the article to avoid edit conflicts during the copy edit.

Please note:

  • No request by an unregistered editor will be accepted unless the IP has done significant work on the article. Drive-by IP requests already on the list may be declined by any editor.
  • The average waiting time is two or so months. Please be patient and feel free to improve your requested article while you wait.
  • If you plan to nominate the article for good article, A-class or featured article status, please wait until the copy edit is complete before nominating it.
  • Having your article copy edited by our team does not guarantee that the prose will be considered acceptable during any of the above reviews.
  • You may have up to two open requests at any one time. This is enforced so that every request can have a fair chance of being fulfilled within a reasonable period.

Requests may be declined if the article is:

Instructions for copy editors
  • Once you have accepted a request, it may be helpful to add a section to the article's Talk page explaining that you will be copy-editing the article and that other editors are welcome to post questions and comments for you while you are doing so. Remember to add another note when you are done.
  • Please ensure that you are familiar with the Misplaced Pages Manual of Style and the expectations for editing for the GOCE outlined in our Step by Step guide. The simplified Manual of Style is here. A number of national varieties of English are present throughout the encyclopedia, and no one variety is preferred. Keep spelling and date formatting consistent within an article.
  • When you accept a request, place an indented {{Working}} template immediately beneath the request and sign your post with four tildes (~~~~) so other copy editors know not to accept it.
  • Accept only one request at a time.
  • Articles that are potential Featured Article candidates should be handled by experienced editors.
  • If you have accepted a request but cannot fulfill it for any reason, please amend it with either:
    • a note of the sections you have completed so someone else can complete the copy edit, or;
    • a suitable template: {{Not done}}, {{Partly done}}, or Abandoned (not a template!). Please make a good-faith effort to complete a copyedit; excessive use of the "Partly done" template does little (or nothing) to reduce the backlog.
    • If the article is unstable, experiencing rapid development, an ongoing edit war or apparent ownership issues, open a discussion on Requests talk to inform project coordinators.
    • Acceptances that appear to have been abandoned will be checked after a reasonable period, usually one week after the timestamp. In cases of complete inactivity we will ask for an update on your talk page. If no response is received within one further week, the {{Working}} template will be removed so other editors may complete the copy edit.
  • When you have completed a request, add the template {{Done}} below the request and sign your post with four tildes (~~~~) and a bot will archive it in about 24 hours. In limited circumstances (breakdowns etc.), you can add the details of the request to the archive page then remove the request here by blanking the subsection. Do not delete the original request without archiving it.
  • Please consider adding the templates {{GOCE|user={{subst:REVISIONUSER}}|date={{subst:date}}}} on the talk page of articles you have copy edited and {{GOCEtb|article=Insert article name|sign=~~~~}} to the talk page of the requester.

Instructions for coordinators
  • Stale requests marked as "Working": Acceptances that appear to have been abandoned should be checked for activity after a reasonable period, usually one week after the timestamp. In cases of complete inactivity, a coordinator should ask for an update on the copy editor's talk page. Write "Asked X for update on talk page" below the "Working" line on the Requests page. If no response is received within one further week, the {{Working}} template should be removed so that other editors may complete the copy edit.
  • Quality control: Articles from the Requests page that are completed by newer editors should be reviewed for quality by a coordinator, time permitting. The top priority is to review articles that are FA candidates; the second priority, GA and DYK candidates.

Myth of the clean Wehrmacht

The myth that the German military was not involved in any war crimes during WWII. Recently sent for Good Article Nomination. Szzuk (talk) 17:29, 7 August 2019 (UTC)

On hold; there's been lots of editing to this article over the past two days since it was listed here and it's unstable. Discuss on REQ Talk. Baffle☿gab 06:42, 24 August 2019 (UTC)
Now the article has passed as GA I don't plan on editing the article much/at all. Szzuk (talk) 09:37, 25 August 2019 (UTC)

() The article has settled down so I've removed the hold notice. Copy-editors are advised to check the article's history before starting a major c/e on this lengthy article. Cheers, Baffle☿gab 19:39, 28 August 2019 (UTC)

Ding Junhui

Since I've always been a big fan of Ding Junhui, it would be best for me to avoid extensively copy editing this article. I'm looking for assistance from someone with a neutral POV to copy edit this article. Hoping to push it to become an A-class article or GAN in the future. Thanks. —Bobbychan193 (talk) 21:47, 8 August 2019 (UTC)

Sun Yang

A WP:BLP of a well-known Chinese swimmer. Would appreciate a copy edit to refine the prose and eventually push for GA. —Bobbychan193 (talk) 07:20, 10 August 2019 (UTC)

Michael Wittmann

Would appreciate a c/e. K.e.coffman (talk) 16:46, 11 August 2019 (UTC)

SpongeBob SquarePants

Would like for this article to go under a copyedit, because I'm thinking of bringing this to FAC in the future. Usually I would go about bringing everything under a single citation style, but the references are already rather clean and as far as I know, there are no duplicate or dead references. I'm mostly concerned with making sure it fits with standards for writing about fiction, cutting unnecessary sections, as well as regular copyedit work. Jerry (talk) 01:13, 12 August 2019 (UTC)

Weathering with You

I am working on this article to promote it to at least GA status. The automatic peer reviewer said that this article should go through copyediting. I don't know how to. So I am asking here. Masum Reza 20:36, 13 August 2019 (UTC)

My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy

I would like this article to be copy edited as I am hoping to improve it to possibly FA status but would like a copy edit before I submit. Kyle Peake (talk) 13:52, 15 August 2019 (UTC)

The Beautician and the Beast

Hello everyone! This article received a very helpful c/e in the past, but I have since revised it for a future FAC attempt. I would greatly appreciate another copy-edit to spot any mistakes I made during the revision process. I have a few articles in mind for an FAC before this one so there is no rush. Thank you in advance! Aoba47 (talk) 23:20, 18 August 2019 (UTC)

MAX Green Line

Please copy edit the article for future GA nomination. Truflip99 (talk) 20:53, 19 August 2019 (UTC)

I often edit this article, but I think it wouldn’t hurt if copyediting was done to this article. WikiHelper26 (talk) 04:46, 21 August 2019 (UTC)

To prepare for GAN/FAC, thanks. No rush, it can wait until it reaches the top of the list as it still needs a bit of work. FunkMonk (talk) 15:04, 21 August 2019 (UTC)

Go Vacation

Currently at FAC and a copyedit is needed. Though, I'm not sure if a article is actually allowed to be copyedited while at FAC. TheAwesomeHwyh 01:08, 24 August 2019 (UTC)

Not at FAC anymore- still needs copy edit. TheAwesomeHwyh 01:06, 29 August 2019 (UTC)

Hello. This article has been significantly expanded compared to before, but still has many grammatical errors. Looking forward to your help. Thanks you. Fdery (talk) 07:28, 26 August 2019 (UTC)

Salute to America

Request a copy edit for this article before editors consider GA nom. Thanks in advance! --Another Believer (Talk) 23:14, 26 August 2019 (UTC)

Bastarnae

This is an interesting history and archaeology article about a little known group of ancient people, the Bastarnae. The article is in relatively good shape. I did a first pass of copy-editing myself but it would be great if it undergoes a professional copy-editing session. Thanks in advance! Codrin.B (talk) 08:10, 27 August 2019 (UTC)

American football

I managed to get this article promoted to good article status in 2013, but attempts at a featured article nomination stalled. One of my regrets is not having followed up and gotten this to featured article, and as the flagship article of Misplaced Pages:WikiProject American football and one of our major sports articles, I feel it should be as good as possible. While I feel this article is in excellent shape, and it remains a very good article, my primary aim here is to ensure this article meets its mandate: an introductory article on the sport that is readable and understandable to those unfamiliar with the sport, so I'm hoping a copyedit here will further improve readability. Toa Nidhiki05 23:16, 27 August 2019 (UTC)

Shinya Kogami

Might need a general copyedit especially in the recent new real world information. Cheers.Tintor2 (talk) 16:48, 28 August 2019 (UTC)

Special Area Games Scheme

This is the third article I have written on Misplaced Pages and would like to take it for featured status soon after the GA nomination so it would be really helpful if any generous user helps me with the process. As it is already evident that I am very new on Misplaced Pages so your guidance is requested. Thanks and regards.-Deepak G Goswami (talk) 17:25, 28 August 2019 (UTC)

Deactivators

Its currently at FAC and one reviewer said the article needs a copyedit. Hoping to get a copyedit as soon as possible so the nomination doesn't close on me. GamerPro64 18:10, 28 August 2019 (UTC)

That "one reviewer" would be me. A copy editor may find it helpful to look at my comments in the FAC of some of the potential areas for improvement. Gog the Mild (talk) 21:05, 28 August 2019 (UTC)

Cadet Nurse Corps

I expect to nominate this article for an ACR. A general copyedit would be helpful. Thanks! Pendright (talk) 21:03, 28 August 2019 (UTC)

"A Tree Grows in Guadalajara"

Hello. I would greatly appreciate a copy-edit of the above article that I recently expanded. I do not have any intentions on working on the article further, although I think a copy-edit would be helpful for anyone interested in improving it further or just wants to know more about the episode in question. Thank you in advance! Aoba47 (talk) 03:11, 30 August 2019 (UTC)

Vietnam

This is a prominent article (hundreds of thousands of page views per month) with a lot of copyediting issues. I fixed a few, but almost every section I checked had grammatical issues in a few sentences. Straight up typos are rare, but tense mixup, subject-verb agreement and extremely awkward / confusing sentence construction are rife. Could use a thorough read-through by a good editor. Ganesha811 (talk) 17:01, 30 August 2019 (UTC)

Good Charlotte (album)

Planning to take to GA. Yeepsi (talk) 22:06, 30 August 2019 (UTC)

Harry Hay

This article has two major issues: it is largely sourced to one of his biographies, although all that content may be accurate; and there is strong objection, by me at least, to how the connection to NAMBLA content is sourced and presented although I have potential content and sourcing that might help.

Because of how the second issue progressed, I have ceased editing there but the problems persist. I’m hoping some fresh and critical eyes can perhaps save what could be a fascinating and good article. I’m happy to answer any questions in hopes that the article can get cleaned up.

BTW I’m also willing to serve as your researcher if you want to tag items that need sourcing, better ones, etc. Gleeanon409 (talk) 00:18, 31 August 2019 (UTC)
