His father, Hadj Abdessalem Attar, recorded groundbreaking albums with Brian Jones and Joel Rubiner released in 1971 and 1972, respectively. Bachir Attar carries on his group's Attar family traditions with musicians designated "master musicians", some of whom are descendants of members of his father's group, as do a rival band called Master Musicians of Joujouka.
Bachir Attar has recorded a couple of solo albums in addition to his work with Master Musicians of Jajouka.
