Kathleen Reynolds (née Coen; 1932 – 14 May 2021) was the wife of Albert Reynolds, who served one term as Taoiseach.

Biography

Kathleen Coen was born in Culfadda, four miles from Ballymote, the daughter of Philip and Bridget Coen. The middle child in a family of three, her elder brother worked in the local post office and her younger sister became a teaching nun. Coen first met her future husband, Albert Reynolds, when she was working at McGettrick's Outfitters in Ballymote. The couple married in 1960 and had seven children. Reynolds remained largely apolitical, in spite of her husband's election to Dáil Éireann in 1977 and his appointment to cabinet in 1979. She took on a more prominent role following his election as Taoiseach in 1992, just a year after being diagnosed with breast cancer from which she made a full recovery.

Reynolds died at her residence in Ballsbridge, Dublin on 4 May 2021.
