Early life
Parkes attended The King's High School for Girls before going to the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.
Career
Parkes left school early to begin filming The Spanish Princess which started principal photography on May 15, 2018. Parkes played Rosa, one of Catherine of Aragon’s trusted ladies-in-waiting who finds her way in the Tudor court in what show-runner Emma Frost described as a “really strong dynamic between three women who support each other. That was very appealing to us, especially with them coming in as the immigrants, and as the outsiders, and sticking together." She also appeared as Claire Clairmont on The Haunting of Villa Diodati from series 12 episode 8 of Doctor Who that aired in the UK in February 2020, Clairmont was a half-sister to Mary Shelly. Her character is also a mistress to Lord Byron.
In 2021 Parkes appears in BBC comedy series Starstruck with Rose Matafeo and plays the young Roman Livia in the Sky television historical epic Domina as she is forced into a marriage with a cousin almost three times her age named Tiberius Nero. Reviewed in The Times as “luminously played” by Tom Holland (author) and in The Financial Times included for praise as the “youthful versions of the main characters... acquit themselves so well it’ll be a shame to bid them vale.” Joel Golby in The Guardian noted the programme tells “primarily through the eyes of women” and Parkes “feels doomed to be very famous”.
Personal life
Parkes has worked at a special needs school while auditioning for roles. Parkes is friends with actress Sophie Turner and attended her bachelorette trip to Spain ahead of Turner’s marriage to Joe Jonas. It is thought Turner may have introduced Parkes to fellow actor Tom Holland, Parkes and Holland revealed themselves to be in a relationship in July 2020 having prior been quarantining together during the Covid-19 pandemic.
