Ilia Topuria (born January 21, 1997) is a Georgian mixed martial artist who competes in the Featherweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Ilia si allena con la squadra Climent Club. Le sue abilità spiccano soprattutto nel Jiu jitsu brasiliano di cui è cintura nera, così come nel wrestling e nel grappling Oltre ad avere un ottimo livello di boxe.

Biografia

Ilia è nato a Halle in Germania. È figlio di genitori georgiani. Ha iniziato a praticare lotta greco-romano a scuola. All'età di 15 anni si è trasferito a vivere ad Alicante in Spagna, dove ha iniziato a praticare arti marziali miste presso la palestra del Climent Club. Nel 2015 ha debuttato come professionista in competizioni locali.

Ilia nació en Halle, Alemania. Es hijo de padres georgianos. Comenzó a practicar lucha grecorromana en la escuela. A los 15 años se trasladó a vivir a Alicante, España, donde comenzó a practicar artes marciales mixtas en el gimnasio Climent Club. En 2015 debutó como profesional en promotoras locales.

En 2018 hizo su primera pelea internacional en Cage MMA Finland. Ese mismo año, en mayo, se convierte en el primer cinturón negro georgiano de Jiu-jitsu brasileño junto a su hermano Alex Topuria. Meses más tarde recibió la oportunidad de pelear por el cinturón de peso gallo de Cage Warriors en el Lotto Arena de Amberes, Bélgica. Ilia no consiguió dar el peso pactado por lo que a pesar de ganar rápidamente la pelea, no obtuvo el cinturón.

En 2019 firma con la compañía Brave Combat Federation. Ilia hace su debut con la promotora en Bogotá, Colombia, derrotando por sumisión en el primer asalto a su rival Luis Gómez; lo que le lleva a conseguir el premio a la mejor actuación de la noche. El 15 de noviembre de 2019, en Baréin, gana su segundo combate en BRAVE al derrotar a Steven Goncalves por KO en el primer asalto.

Nel 2018 ha fatto il suo primo incontro internazionale al Cage MMA Finland. Lo stesso anno ha avuto l'opportunità di combattere per la Bantamweight cintura di Cage Warriors alla Lotto Arena di Anversa in Belgio. Ilia non è riuscita a dare il peso concordato, quindi nonostante abbia vinto rapidamente il combattimento, non ha ottenuto la cintura.

Nel 2019 ha firmato con la società Brave Combat Federation. Ilia fa il suo debutto con il promotore a Bogotà in Colombia, sconfiggendo nel primo turno il suo rivale Luis Gómez; meritandosi il premio come migliore performance della notte. Il 15 novembre 2019 in Bahrain, ha vinto la sua seconda partita in BRAVE battendo Steven Goncalves per KO al primo turno.

Ilia was born in Halle Germany at the 23 of January of the year 1997. Both his parents are Georgians. He started training wrestling and grappling from a young age but also has good boxing and jiu-jitsu.   At the age of 15 he and his family moved to Spain, Alicante. There at the Climent gym he began his mma training and in 2015 he started to fight as a professional for lokal promotions.

2018 he had his first international appearance for Cage MMA Finland. That same year he also was the first Georgian fighter to receive a black belt in Brazilian jiu - jitsu along side his brother Alex Topuria.  He then continued to fight for the Cage Warriors Bantamweight title but missed weight for that fight and therefore even winning the fight he wasn't eligible for the Cage Warrior title.

2019 Ilia Topuria signed with the Brave Combat Federation in which he fought twice that year once winning via submission against Luis Gomes at Brave CF 26 and once via knockout at Brave CF 29 against Steven Goncalves.

Ultimate Fighting Championship

Topuria, as a replacement for Seung Woo Choi , took a bout on short notice against Youssef Zalal on October 11, 2020 at UFC Fight Night: Moraes vs. Sandhagen. Topuria won the fight via unanimous decision.

Topuria faced Damon Jackson on December 5, 2020 at UFC on ESPN: Hermansson vs. Vettori. He won the fight via knockout in round one.

Topuria is expected to face Ryan Hall on July 10, 2021 at UFC 264.
