John Katumba (born 1996) is a Ugandan politician who ran for the office of the president of Uganda in the January 14, 2021 presidential election as an independent candidate. At 24 years old, he was the youngest presidential candidate in the 2021 election and the youngest in Ugandan presidential election history. He was one of eleven candidates in the race including president Yoweri Museveni who became Ugandan elected president in 1996 same year Katumba was born.

Early life and education

Katumba was born in Naalya –Kiwatule in Kampala to Kkonde family with ancestral home in Buikwe District in Central Uganda. His parents died when he was about two years old and was raised by a guardian. He had his primary education at Zion Hill Standard Academy in Buikwe District before enrolling in Central View High School in Mukono district for his O and A Level certificate. His guardian paid his full school fees up to A Level but stopped and started paying half of his fees when things became difficulty for the guardian. Katumba then started going to washing bays where he washed cars to raise money for his fees and other academic materials. After finishing high school, he went to Makerere University Business School where he studied Transport and Logistics Management graduating with a first degree in January 2020.
