Game of Thrones: Winter is Coming is a videogame RPG published in 2019, based on the Game of Thrones television series and the A Song of Ice and Fire books.

On 26 March 2019, Chinese studio Yoozoo Games announced the global launch of Game of Thrones Winter is Coming, a real-time strategy browser game officially licensed by Warner Bros, under license from HBO. The mobile port of the game is scheduled for 2020.

The player takes the part of a lord or lady of one of the seven kingdoms of Westeros, and progresses by training soldiers, recruiting characters and forming an alliance with other players.

Advertisements for this game that intruded into YouTube videos, seemed to say that game activities include not only fighting and war, but also increasing food production (cultivating land, herding sheep, fishing, picking fruit), mining metal ore, having weapons made, felling timber and making buildings, and training men. Picking fruit, cultivating land, fishing and herding sheep are not a part of the actual gameplay.

In the game, a dragon can be obtained, as an egg, which can be hatched, and the hatchling can be raised through its juvenile stage to being big enough to be useful in battle and air-search.

In the story's timeline, the game starts after Eddard Stark dies, but as if all seven kingdoms had thereupon seceded, not only The North.

GoTWiC is a scam. It’s a scam based on finding legal ways to extort money from players. GTArcade does not “waste” the gained revenue on fixing major bugs even, some in existence after over a year of reporting.

The game is advertised as F2P (“free to play”) however you cannot stand a chance unless you spend. GTArcade within a year of releasing GoTWiC realised that some players will spend more - and began a money extortion campaign. Released newer and newer features (some at $16.000 price tag) which leading players needed to keep their position, instantly maximisable if the maximum price is spent. The players campaigned against this, however little to no change was achieved and many leading players have quit the game.

Further players quit after the rebel train scandal: GTArcade eager to encourage spend, allowed players to purchase unlimited “motivation”, the item required to kill “rebel leaders” on the map - these provide spoils to alliances and individual players, of which players need tens of thousands. Players began grouping together for this action, financing further purchases of motivation from the alliance spoils gained from the kills. While GTArcade does not fix bugs, they removed the unlimited purchase within two days. Furthermore they openly accused the players involved in multiple letters to every player in GoTWiC, of abusing a “bug” (there was no bug) and acting against ToS (there was no ToS breach.) they illegally removed items from player accounts, also items purchased with the in-game currency (black diamonds, obtained by recharging money.) they sent “rewards” to players not having taken part in the rebel train for weeks, these rewards were not corresponding to rewards obtained from the action of killing rebel leaders on the map. Several of the well respected leading players, including leaders of the campaign for fair play, have quit GoTWiC as result of the scandal. After this, as of July 2021 GTArcade began to reduce player rewards obtained from the same action via alliance spoils. Throughout the year before, they were reducing “damage” in rebel leader attacks, in an aim to prohibit players killing rebel leaders. In the middle of July 2021, they reduced the rewards from alliance spoils to counteract that they were constantly complained at for “nerfing” rebel leader damage.

At the time of the release of GoTWiC, GTArcade made several promises to players regarding the development of e game: new commanders to include Eddard Stark, Grey Worm, among other characters known from the HBO series, as well as developments such as the opening of “small cities” on the map for player occupation. None of these promises were carried out by GTArcade. It is the norm for GTArcade to sell a description e.g Commander Melisandre will be an “Elite” awakened commander (meaning F2P players will be able to progress the commander awakening) and then release “Epic” awakening for the commander (meaning that the action of awakening is near impossible without spending money.)

GoTWiC is a scam. HBO ought to take notice of what their brand is being used for. Also, GoTWiC is declining rapidly, due to GTArcade’s open disregard of player preferences, refusal to fix bugs, open lies to and about players, ignorance of players and the various cheat algorithms planted in the game as well as the money extorting releases, prohibiting F2P and even small- and medium-spender success in the game.
