Wrong person.

I wasn't the one who added "feck", I added the Red vs Blue note onto "fucktard", you must've looked at the wrong editor. Thanks anyway. ;) -- Viewdrix 18:27, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

My bad, sorry about that. I should check more closely. Cheers.--Anchoress 22:03, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

Penguins!

From ANI: Cool. Sorry to bother you guys.--Anchoress 02:34, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

Not a bother at all! It could easily have been viewed as vandalism and some rogue admin would have just deleted the redirect. Many thanks for bringing it up at ANI. Indeed, here's a few penguins. -- Samir धर्म 07:32, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
Aaawwww, my first penguins!! Thanks!--Anchoress 07:42, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

Kiki Carter

Hello. You posted a tag on the Kiki Carter page, suggesting that the article needs copyediting. Would you please be more specific as to the type of copyediting you feel it needs. Thank you. Eaglefeather11 15:51, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

Yes. As you can see, the article needs to have fixed the following: a) inconsistent abbreviation; b) missing or extra spaces; c) misplaced, missing or extra punctuation.--Anchoress 16:14, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks much!Eaglefeather11

Vandalism or carelessness

Hi, On your user page I see "My dog submissive pees for lesbians, and HATES people in motorised wheelchairs" As this doesn't make sense as a sentance (at least to me) I'm drawing it to your attention. AllanHainey 15:27, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads-up. It's neither vandalism nor carelessness, but I'm sorry it doesn't make sense to you. Perhaps if I put 'submissive pees' in quotations, because it's a kind of dog behaviour lingo that is accurate even though it's not conventional conjugation for the context. If I remember I'll change it to make it more clear.--Anchoress 15:33, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

of oars and forks

"poke a fork in it" isn't exactly the tone I was hoping for, even on talkpages. My contribution consisted precislely in moving the unhappy section out of the way because it has no place on RD. Thus, apart from stylistic matters, we seem to be in agreement. I certainly won't mind if you remove the section altogether. dab () 06:24, 12 August 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, well I guess we each disapprove of the other person's mode of self-expression? Because I thought your comments were completely unnecessary and hence inflammatory. I agree with your choice to move the section and your reasons, and I shall go ahead and delete the whole thing. --Anchoress 06:29, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
BTW, just wanted to make sure you understand that 'poke a fork in it' is a completely non-offensive English metaphor comparing an issue to dinner? As in, 'Poke a fork in him, Greg Norman's done like dinner as far as this tournament is concerned.' It isn't pejorative, and it's not akin to saying 'put a sock in it'.Anchoress 06:35, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
I'd have to agree here. Poke a fork in it is even a bit on the silly side of saying things, its not an insult in any way. I agree that removal was the best thing here. The comments didn't have anything to do with the reference desk, and hopefully their removal will allow the arguers to forgot about it. Hopefully. I'm really being hopeful since I see signs of tempers, but I'm assuming good faith until then. Good job both of you. pschemp | talk 06:57, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for the note, pschemp. BTW, how did you ever end up in my quiet little corner of the 'pedia?--Anchoress 07:06, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
I'm a science geek. :) I keep an eye on the reference desk all the time, just don't usually post. pschemp | talk 07:16, 12 August 2006 (UTC)

Ugly words

You like smegma?!??! --14:01, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, I love the way it rrrrolls off the tongue. ;-) Anchoress 23:15, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
Oh, I can't decide if the entendre is double or triple. Anyway, when are you going to remove that comment from your user page? I'm afraid it still bothers me enormously, despite your explanations. --Dweller 09:02, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
I don't plan to remove it, at least not without a convincing reason. I suggest that if it bothers you, don't read it any more. Besides, you said above, "It's no problem for me, I'm quite broad-minded. I'm just saying how it can be read." Anchoress 09:48, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
I was trying very hard. Particularly sice from the noises you were making, you seemed reasonable and prepared to remove it. My mistake. I am trying (very) hard not to rant (honestly). But I find each of the following elements problematic (the first is the one I have most trouble with):
  • that you find a Jewish source hilarious
  • that you can't name that source
  • that referring to it as "the Jewish annals of notable Jews", makes it sound somehow "official"
  • that Google's only ref to ""the Jewish annals of notable Jews" brings up your user pages

Sorry. Actually, perhaps what bothers me most is that you seem so (otherwise) likeable. --10:55, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

  • I regret that it bothers you, and to be clear I never indicated I was going to remove it.
  • I don't recall making any noises at all.
  • I understand that you find me likeable, that is flattering but possibly inaccurate.
  • You are welcome to rant on my talk page.
  • I believe that I am not obligated to provide sources that satisfy you or other editors for content on my user page.
  • I don't doubt that 'the Jewish annals of notable Jews' doesn't turn up much, since the original is probably in Hebrew or Aramaic.
  • Perhaps the best thing for you to do would be to forget about this, since it is causing you so much distress.
  • Perhaps at some point in the future, I shall explain to you why I find it hilarious. I don't know if it will make you feel better or worse, but if you wish it and if I feel like it I may do so.
  • I empathise with you because there are some things on other people's user pages that bother me quite a bit too.
  • I find your persistence disturbing, to tell you the truth you're starting to give me the creeps.
Anchoress 11:29, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

No wish to give you the creeps. I'm still bothered. Glad you empathise. I'm gone. --Dweller 11:39, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

Hi Jonathan; how did you come to this conversation? Especially since there's a more specific one above? Thanks for the info anyway, but I believe my friend over you, no offence. Anchoress 07:42, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
No offence taken; that is natural. I reckon at some point you'll come to the conclusion that the matter bears further investigation on your part; I would expect my input to have only the smallest effect on that eventuality. Caffeine

Thank you for going over the caffeine article. I've been staring at it for so long that I'm likely to miss lots of little (or not so little) errors and omissions. – ClockworkSoul 06:08, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

No probs, it looks awesome actually. I left some notes on the talk page, and if you check the edit summaries there are some explanations and questions. I'll be back to check it again soon. Cheers, --Anchoress 06:31, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
You've made some very useful observations, thank you! I'm going to do what I can to make the article as close to perfect as is possible. If you can find the reference regarding the illegality of adding extra caffeine to soda in Canada, I would be most grateful. Cheers! – ClockworkSoul 06:39, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

Hi there

No, sorry. But good luck though. Is there maybe a category for that? Anchoress 22:52, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
Don't think so. User:ClockworkSoul agreed to help me. — (talk)

I wouldn't mind, but I'm unpartnered at present. Good luck though. Anchoress 02:12, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

In case this isn't on your watchlist...

Do you have any thoughts on Talk:Scott Walker (singer)? Thanks. --Cherry blossom tree 22:48, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

Yeah I saw your reply but I haven't looked at the diffs yet. Hopefully the editor who you've indicated has made some sweeping edits will weigh in. Anchoress 23:25, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
Hi Cherry blossom tree: I trust you've seen my post to the talk page? I hope it meets with your approval. I think it's best to go easy with this one since it seems good faith attempts to clean up the purple prose have been reverted before, and a revert war between four editors isn't any more pleasant than one between two. :-) I hope that the prior warning of impending trimming will preclude reverts (fingers crossed!). It is regrettable that Andrew is somewhat uncivil, but IMO there's no point in belabouring it at present since he doesn't seem to hold WP policies and guidelines in high regard (at present). Let's continue to WP:AGF and keep our fingers crossed, and hopefully this article will clean up without too much agony. :-) Anchoress 10:14, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, I've no intention of starting an edit war, don't worry. I think your approach sounds wise, especially since Andrew doesn't seem too keen on editing in a standard manner. If there's anything I can do to help, I'm happy to. I think it's probably best to just have a look over it once you're finished, to avoid getting in the way. Thanks. --Cherry blossom tree 18:42, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
Cool. He's asked me to wait until August 31, and there are other editors working on it too, I think he's got the picture now. It would be so nice to get some sources. Anchoress 01:26, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
I may be able to help out with sources - I'll see what I can lay my hands on. --Cherry blossom tree 18:40, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
That's great. Anchoress 18:59, 31 August 2006 (UTC)

What happened to the 'dense material' thread? It's totally gone, and it was only a day or two old.

Fiction v. nonfiction

Re: User talk:CaptainXel, that blunt "Actually you're wrong Durova" was pretty harsh, especially since my advice was correct. This editor wants to sell a novel, not a nonfiction book. Your understanding is correct for nonfiction, but an unknown novelist needs a complete manuscript. What worries me about the advice you offered is that it's the sort of mistake that not only leads to automatic rejection but might prevent a novelist from getting a second chance with a publisher. Durova 20:38, 19 September 2006 (UTC)

Durova, you're absolutely wrong, I'm sorry. I am a published author, and I know from my own experience, along with many, many documented instances in reputable books on fiction writing that you do NOT have to have a completed manuscript. The quote you provided is the first time I have ever seen an expert advise that a completed manuscript is required, or even preferred. In 'The Writer's Market' and other books I've read, all the agents and publishers I've seen ask for the first three chapters and a detailed synopsis in their submission guidelines, they never ask for the whole work, and they don't ask whether or not it's finished. Re Scott Walker

I don't agree that these are personal points of view. The discussion page is where we have been discussing this article. I don't appreciate all this work being wiped at your whim. I don't like the editing style adopted. I don't get where you are coming from in a historic literary context, which is what encyclopedic writing is based on. I will revert the text if you don't respond why you think you know better than me how to write. You did not add anything positive to the discussion while the work was in progress except your last claim about typos. You then just wiped out all that work that has been worked over repeatedly and for which there are perfectly good references provided in the discussion page. The other editors appear mollified.

To begin with, you seem to mistake PPOV with impersonal observations. That is why you presumably took out the "reportorial" observation about Walker's early recordings. This shows you don't understand literary or conventional styles of writing in this genre. A reporter does not necessarily provide a personal point of view when he reports an observation or a record of an event as it would strike any unbiased observer. That is his role, to convey clear information and impressions. This is both a neutral POV and the basis of western historical writing going back to Herodotus and Thucydides. This is a stylistic and philosphic manner(ism. Also, please don't fall into the trap of mistaking it for "original" material. It is impersonal observation that adds complexity to a report like this because it presents Walker in in another light from the general tone of the rest. It provides balance and depth. It also helps to avoid hagiography. If Karl Marx were once a devout little Jewish boy who sang regularly at Synagogue do you think that would not be a relevant fact to include in his bio?

What your edit is tending towards is reducing this report to a bland template. This is not the intent of encyclopedic writing, but one one for amateurs to hide behind. You are being officious, even if you don't intend it. This my considered courtesy response. Andrew Hanos.210.11.113.219 08:00, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

Sorry to take so long to reply. I'm not able to put time into this right now, but a lot of your edits are just not in line with Misplaced Pages's editorial style. I'm sorry that you feel so negatively about my contributions to the article, I hope you can accept that I mean the best for the article, the subject and Misplaced Pages. Perhaps if you edited other articles, you would get a better feel for Misplaced Pages's editorial style and therefore for my (and other editors') editing priorities. Bend It Like Beckham

Hi Anchoress -- this is a copy of my reply to your Help Desk question at Misplaced Pages:Help_desk#Is there a place to post requested moves?. I don't believe a page move is needed; the specific issue with the redlink that you posted was that it needed to be a redirect to the actual article, which is at Bend It Like Beckham. I believe that is the correct capitalization. The film's own poster and web site are no help, since they both show the title in all-caps; however, IMDB, which we usually accept as canonical, shows the title as it presently is in the name of the article. I created a redirect with the redlined title you posted, so it will work as well. Best, --MCB 22:32, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

OK cool. I actually had as much of an issue with all the redirects from mis-spellings and different capitalisations, but someone said that's kopacetic, so I guess the deal's done like dinner. Thanks a heap for the reply. Anchoress 01:59, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

Airport map

Further to my reply at London Heathrow Airport. If you go to National Air Traffic Services you can get PDF maps of all registered airports in the United Kingdom. You want to look for the "AD Chart". It requires free registration but they don't seem to be spammers. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 01:42, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

Yeah I know. I actually have a map in my London A-Z book that shows Heathrow. I didn't post to the talk page because I need help finding Heathrow in the UK, I posted it because I think there should be a map of Greater London in the Heathrow article with Heathrow marked. Firing up about the whole MILF thing & its broader ramifications for women who contribute to the reference desk and the rest of the world generally

Hi Anchoress, I had a bit of a wikibreak (actually my activity on wikipedia really represents reality breaks) & I just wanted to get back to you and say that I really enjoyed your posts. I sometimes drop off the planet when real life leaves no gaps nad I fear that my sudden "disappearances" my seem a bit snobby, or something. I pretty much figured thats what you were talking about when you mentioned infantilisation, not the weird & slightly sick stuff that you linked to! Or at least I was relieved that what I thought you meant was correct. I realise that in many parts of the world women's rights are essentially null. In my post I was actually referring to the western world. If we worry about the whole world all at once, I think our heads will implode. But you're right - life sucks for an awful lot of women, and for no good reason. I pray it gets better. Cheerio then! Mattopaedia 12:26, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

Thanks a lot, I really appreciate it. Yeah, I should start looking at unfamiliar articles before linking to them lol. Hope your sojourn on Wiki goes well, look forward to bumping into you soon. Anchoress 12:39, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

List of songs featured in The Simpsons

I've been tinkering with Talk:List of songs featured in The Simpsons and notice you mention on talk page about an Excel sheet you have. I'd be happy to take and juggle it if you like. I'm thinking for this page there has to be a better way than to list by song and by episode, duplicating the data (and errors) as we go, but no idea what it is. BLP

Hi, I noticed you added the BLP template to this page. You probably did this without thinking and you might realise now it was a mistake. But if not, just wanted to tell you it was unnecessary as he was already dead (indeed I believe the article was only created after his death) so obviously it was not a BLP. While we still have to observe BLP when it comes to other living people discussed on his page and we also should obviously try to avoid unsourced material as with all wikipedian articles we don't add the BLP unless the article is itself a BLP. Cheers Nil Einne 03:17, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

Needless to say, I am very suprised at the huge levels of support I've seen on my RfA, and at the fact that I only had give three answers, unlike many other nominees who have had many, many more questions! I'll be careful with my use of the tools, and invite you to tell me off if I do something wrong! Thanks, Martinp23 14:58, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

Hey congrats, I am sooooo happy for you! That's an excellent result, and I'm sure you'll do great. Anchoress 21:39, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

Age ain't nuttin' but a thang! Why the long face, pussycat? Isitcozimblack 04:13, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks back to you

Well thank you Anchoress. I've seen nothing but clarity from you at the 'RD in some of our contentious moments and if others have benefited from your perspectives as have I well then, the RD has been mightily enriched. You have been able to capture the essence of our discourse and have demonstrated an excellent sense of timing as to when to submit your thoughts and ideas. I don't know if it's cleverness or just natural wisdom on your part; you just seem to provide the right tone at the right time and I thank you for that ability to "calm the waters". See you 'round I'm sure, --hydnjo talk 04:29, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

Correct ethnicity terminology

In response to your comment on my talk page, I put New Zealander as ethnicity in the Max Hardcore article because it says he was born in New Zealand. If you don't consider New Zealander an ethnicity, then you can put White or White American, although technically those are just skin colours, not ethnicities. I tried to change the description to "skin color" but it wouldn't show up in the preview. In any case, Caucasian is a disambiguation page, and is a technically incorrect, out-of-date and USA-centric term when referring to all types of white people. The term Caucasian is only technically correct and universally understood when referring to Peoples of the Caucasus, which is a very specific group of people. Spylab 11:39, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

I don't disagree with removing Caucasian, I have no opinion about that either way. But the article doesn't just say he's from New Zealand; in the very infobox you changed, it lists his birthplace as Wisconsin. Furthermore, on IMDb it lists his birthplace as Wisconsin. That's why I mentioned it, because I don't think it's clear that he's a New Zealander. I thought I made that clear enough in my original message to you, I guess you didn't understand. Anchoress 19:59, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

Olive branch

I think you probably deserve a a slightly expanded explanation for my grumpiness, to which you, unfortunately, have been subject. Some recent discussions by the 'schoolboy' or 'toilet wall' tendency have been annoying the hell out of me (I know you made some attempt to delete one thread before it got underway), but beyond posting a brief and acidy comment, there is not really an awful lot more I can do about this. So your escort posting was all that was needed to tip me over the edge; but, on reflection, I do not think it was that unreasonable. Clio the Muse 09:58, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

Hey, olive branch accepted. Good luck! Anchoress 10:26, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

Help with Editor Review

Many thanks for looking into my editor review problem. After posting the comment on the administrators noticeboard I quickly had a brain wave and reverted my edits back to the last edits. I think what I had done is altered something on the page so new edits couldn't be added but luckilly it was quickly sorted. Guess you could say that after that edit it was probably a good thing that my editor review didn't get put on!!! Ryanpostlethwaite 22:06, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

LOL. Good on ya. Glad it got sorted. Good luck with the ER. Anchoress 22:19, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

Troll discussion

Thanks for pointing the other username block out. Gah. I suspect we have a case of self-fulfilling prophecy and I'm not sure its reversible. Dina 23:01, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, I get you. I'm following the convo on CC's page, will jump in with more comments if they occur to me. I mean, seriously the editor is probably a troll (see this diff and the convo on my talk page), but I still say it's a dubious username indeff. Anchoress 23:09, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

Ok, I'm fine with that. Will readd if it hasn't been already. semper fiMoe 01:19, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

Women and Photography

Thank you for raising this, Anchoress. I felt that if I did it would almost certainly have been misconstrued. Besides, I might say that I have such a low opinion of both the intellect and the 'contribitions' of the user in question, that further comment would be superflous; if, that is, I was the kind of person inclined to such remarks. But, of course, I know this would be interpreted as a personal attack and a breach of 'assume good faith;' so I do not. I apologize for the tortured prose. Clio the Muse 19:55, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

Hey, no probs. I think, on another note, that you should be cautious about personal comments directed towards (if not addressed to) other editors; they could be considered a personal attack, even though you're being quite mild. My plan is, rather than letting such people get me down, I just ignore them and stay out of their way. It's a big Wiki, lots of places to contribute without building up too much bad blood. Anchoress 02:07, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

I'm under attack, Anchoress, and it is quite malevolent. Since you have expressed an interest please see my response under the relevant section on the RD talk page. Not to worry: I am young, tough and smart, and I will survive. Clio the Muse 20:46, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

OK, I'll check it out. Remember, stay frosty and contribute. Life's too short to make enemies online, and being positional cuts off the flow of good edits. Anchoress 20:51, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

Conflict of interest guideline

Regarding your response to my comment at the help desk, I was curious whether you were just admonishing me that WP:COI is a guideline rather than a policy, or was there some other aspect of what I wrote that you thought was problematic? Thanks, Newyorkbrad 02:15, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

No, there wasn't any hidden meaning to my question; I just was pretty sure there wasn't a conflict of interest policy, so I was wondering what you were talking about. I didn't know there was a conflict of interest guideline, by the way. I wasn't being faux naif. :-) Thanks for the reply. Anchoress 02:23, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
You're welcome, I was just wondering. I assumed at first you just hadn't heard of WP:COI but I didn't want to presume that because you're been editing more than twice as long as I have. Newyorkbrad 02:26, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
Lol twice as long, but with half as much attentiveness, no doubt. On another note, I was disappointed to find faux naif isn't a WP article. Maybe it's a regional thing. Anchoress 02:31, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
No, but it's on Wiktionary here. Newyorkbrad 02:36, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

Chess ?

I see you are a chess player, would you care to play a game some time ? StuRat 01:46, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, I play mostly speed chess on Yahoo. My Yahoo ID is anchoresse. If you see me online and you want to play just IM me. Anchoress 01:55, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
Oh, I'm no good at speed chess, I play with about 20 mins on the clock. I usually play at Pogo, but I've played at Yahoo, too. StuRat 02:37, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
OK. Well I'm not so good at long games, but I'd do a 20 minute game with you. Shorter is better, but I don't care that much. Anchoress 02:49, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
Do you have a Pogo account ? StuRat 14:45, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
No sorry, what is that? Anchoress 16:21, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
Pogo is a major free game site (although they also have a premium membership, called Club Pogo), which includes free chess. I find it easier to use than Yahoo chess. StuRat 18:05, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
Oh OK, I think I've heard of it. I dunno, I don't imagine myself getting an account any time soon. But look for me if you're ever on Yahoo. Anchoress 12:09, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
Would you like to set up a specific time to meet there for a game ? I'm "sturatthegreat" there ? StuRat 13:51, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

US Eastern Time Zone, it's just after 9 AM here. StuRat 14:02, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
Oh, ok, well how bout some nite? Any time I'm on WP and you want to play just let me know and I'll open up a room and invite you. Anchoress 14:21, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
OK, what time range would that be for me ? I can play now, if you like. StuRat 14:30, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

(unindenting) Well I'm going to bed now. I'm up all nite usually. I'm on the compy and available probably from 7pm your time until 8am your time usually. I don't like to play in the morning tho. Anchoress 14:32, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

Too bad, I'd have preferred you to be sleepy for the game, LOL. StuRat 14:35, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
Gee that's not very nice. You need to win that bad, huh? I think I'll say thanks but no thanks, then. Anchoress 14:58, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
No, I don't need to win, that was just a joke. Specifically, it was self-deprecating humor by implying that the only way I could possibly win is if you are fatigued. StuRat 15:39, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
Oh. :-( Well, I dunno lol. I've had reeeeeeally bad experiences with players who talk like that. Anchoress 00:54, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
I'd think somebody who really wanted to win at all costs wouldn't tell you they are hoping you're tired, as that would give away their strategy. StuRat 08:03, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
lol maybe, I don't know. Anchoress 11:41, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
I see you're a fellow Simpson's fan. Up for that game of chess now ? StuRat
How about in about an hour? I'm just getting dinner. If you log into Yahoo I'll invite you. Anchoress 01:51, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

RD question-medical advice

You said that bacterial infections are not contagious. I strongly disagree, having known strep throat to be passed from person to person. Please revise or delete your answer about tonsillitis. Many sore throats are dangerous and the bacteria causing them are highly transmissable. Other sore throats are mononucleosis also highly contagious. Thanks.Edison 17:41, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

Well what I said is that to my knowledge most bacterial infections aren't communicable, at least not as much so as viruses. But I'm happy to remove the post, no problem. I also see though, that you suggested getting a doctor's opinion. I don't think, given the nature of the question (could the original poster get tonsilitis from his friend despite not having tonsils) is worth bothering (and possibly paying) a doctor for. Anchoress 17:50, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

IQ = 156; Career = ?

You have a super high IQ ( mine is just 103 checked on internet ) . Are you like a Neurologist or a Heart Specialist or a Scientist? --Jones2 00:32, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

LOL no, I managed to avoid that type of career, despite my whole family being in the hard sciences. I'm 38 and managing a Barnes and Noble, lol. No actually, I'm a science writer (emphasis on the writer), and in my spare time I make synergy. And books on how to cheat at bridge. And btw about those online IQ tests, they tend to lowball. Have it done properly and you'll get a better idea. Anchoress 01:09, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for making me feel better regarding my IQ, I was feeling rather depressed because I had a low IQ compared to you. Anyways good luck publishing your book on How to cheat Bridge & publishing your science articles i.e. Science Experiments by Anchoress. --Jones2 01:23, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
LOL that's cute. But I'm making a joke about myself using a couple of Simpsons episodes dealing with high IQ. I was poking fun at myself as a classic dilettante, an archetype that was mocked by Eric Idle in a conversation with Lisa Simpson where he suggested that, despite her high IQ, she would find herself '38 and managing a Barnes and Noble'. In another episode, a female Mensa member, when asked by Lisa what she made, said 'Synergy. And books on how to cheat at bridge.' Like many brainiacs without a high-powered career to distract us, I'm preoccupied with minutae. Cheers! Anchoress 01:33, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
What does minutae mean? Is it an english word? --Jones2 02:18, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
Sorry, typo. I wondered why my wikilink didn't work lol. Anchoress 02:25, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

You are a very interesting (in a good way) person. I noticed you are very willing to help your fellow Wiki users. Are you a writer who knows some science? Or a scientist who enjoys writting? 69.158.122.27 15:56, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

I'm a writer who knows a bit of science. Among other things. ;-) Thanks for the kind words. Anchoress 17:44, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

Editor review

The homework-related question clearly seemed like vandalism from first look through Vandal Proof and far from every vandal-reverter investigates each revert he makes. The warning was made automaticly using templates and had nothing to do with not being gentle to newcomers. As for the discussions, they were not removed, but rather moved to a different subpage. It was an obligation of mine to notice other users of the move. I hope your can reconsider my editor review comment and be less quick to make negative judgment on other users. Thank you. Michaelas10 (Talk) 22:04, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

I understand that it seemed like vandalism, but I gave you (on your talk page) a valid other interpretation, which IMO (and my experience both with this user previously and the general tenor of the ref desks) was more plausible than your interpretation. I don't know what other term besides 'removed' would work for our conversation, which was in progress. Whether or not it appeared elsewhere, it was removed from your talkpage. And if it did appear elsewhere, where? I think it is discourteous to make editors trying to work out an issue with you tool through your subpages looking for their thread. Which I did, by the way, and I didn't find it. And no, I'm sorry, I won't be reconsidering my editor review. Best wishes, though. Anchoress 22:11, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
I see your point, and I've removed the warning from the talk page of the IP, but you may also read the header of the subpage. Moving messeges to subpages is a very common practice here on Misplaced Pages and discussions may be continued through there as I will keep it on my watchlist. Michaelas10 (Talk) 22:18, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
Well good for you for removing the warning. I think you should also restore the question you deleted. And as for the sub-page, perhaps it is common, but I have never seen it in practice, and more importantly, I would not have known where to go to find my thread, so how could I have continued to participate? I think moving a completed conversation is completely appropriate; I also think it is appropriate to move a conversation in progress with sufficient notification to participants; but I don't think the way you did it was OK. Anchoress 22:25, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

Ahem!

So I see you have taken to calling me a "troll" for some reason. I want an apology. You have no need to call me that. Systemex 03:04, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

Reference on Coffee Pot

You have accused me (or my IP address, actually) of "defacing the Coffee Pot" page of wikipedia. Honestly, lady, I have no fuckin idea what you're talking about. I'd never even SEEN that page, let alone changed or defaced it, before you challenged me about it. So don't threaten me with "blocking my access" or some other shit like that, because IT'S NOT ME. GET IT? So sod off. And I love coffee pots, anyway. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 216.164.199.206 (talk) 04:50, 23 December 2006 (UTC).

Well if you look at the diff, your IP address DID deface the Coffee pot article. See, this is why it's good to get an account. If you yourself didn't make that edit, then you are suffering the consequences of someone else's vandalistic actions, which is what often happens when one edits from an IP. And when you communicate with other editors, please try to assume good faith, and be more civil; such rudeness as what is included in your post to me is considered a personal attack and may result in a warning similar to the one you just complained to me about. And FWIW, I love coffee pots too. :-)) Thanks for communicating with me, and happy editing! Anchoress 13:51, 23 December 2006 (UTC)
OK I checked the "diff" file and saw that the picture of a coffee pot was replaced by a file named Vulva11.jpg . I can guess what that is, and I KNOW I didn't do that; so someone else must have used my computer and done that. Probably one of my kids. Sorry for my rude tone. I'll get an account, as you suggested. And thanks for all the editing work you've put into this user-powered encyclopedia.
Thank you very much for the reply, the thank you and the apology. Re; the other edit, you should know that IP addresses can rotate, so don't be too quick to blame your kids until you know that your computer was using that IP at the time. Anchoress 16:10, 23 December 2006 (UTC)

Hi, Ludvikus; I'm not sure why you've contacted me as it appears I have neve edited the Berne Trial article, and I don't have any particular expertise with ISBN numbers. If you can give me more info about what you need, I would be happy to try to help you. Anchoress 15:02, 26 December 2006 (UTC)

Tennis Images

I noticed that on WP:RP you requested pictures of female Tennis players. Since you are probably much more knowledge about the article than I (and hence know where to place/replace the image), I'm just going to link you to a few images I found pre-existing on Misplaced Pages for you. And because this request has been fufilled, I'm going to delist it from WP:RP.

--Ybbor 23:32, 26 December 2006 (UTC)

Besides which that page is not in your user space, so if you keep reverting we are likely to have an edit war. Why not put what you want in your personal space, but dont think wikipedia/ belongs to you, please, SqueakBox 21:30, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

It belongs to User:Misplaced Pages which itself is a template. i need a user box that states I am not an admin without any corrolaries, SqueakBox 21:31, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

Cheers and have a nice holiday break, SqueakBox 21:35, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

Hi, SqueakBox. I agree that the template is not in my userspace, I'm sorry you misunderstood me. I was meaning to suggest that POV is allowed on the userpages of editors who wish to indicate that, not only do they not wish to be administrators, but that they do not ever wish to be one. I fully support your goals to have a userbox that indicates lack of interest in being an administrator without the qualifications. You have no need to be concerned about reversions, I would not dream of getting into a revert war with you. And you may be fully reassured that I do not think Misplaced Pages belongs to me. Happy editing! Anchoress 21:37, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

Caribbean cuisine

Before you tag something as a copyvio, make sure you have a look at the page history. It's very clear from the page history that that article is the work of various editors spanning at least 5 years. In addition, the page you said it was copied from clearly credited Misplaced Pages (although not enough for them not to be in violation of the GFDL). Please be more careful when tagging articles - almost all our articles are mirrored somewhere. Guettarda 14:05, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

I certainly will continue to make every effort to be careful about copyvio tags, and I ask that you take a generous, open-minded approach to your communication. I did look at the page history, quite carefully actually, and I did not see what you saw. Furthermore, I looked carefully at the site I cited as the copyvio source and I did not see a credit to Misplaced Pages. I thank you to assume goodwill of your fellow editors, we are just doing our best. Anchoress 14:14, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

Re: Pregnancy fetishism

Thank you very much, anchoress. I'm particularly a newbie on wikipedia and found the pregnancy fetishism article, which is shocking. To know an actual pregnancy experience (I had 3 children, 2 sons and a daughter) will tell them striaght forward. I hope they got disgusted and rather not obsess over her hypersexually, but I truly feel pregnancy has a beauty attached to it by the greatness of god or whatever you believe in, it's all the same in the mystique and sanctity of women giving birth to new babies to the world. For starters, Pregnancy isn't to look "sexually abnormal", a major obnoxious theme in prego fetish web sites and chat forums. All right have a good day. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 63.3.14.1 (talkcontribs) 00:09, 26 January 2007.

Buenos Aires

It was lots of fun! Thank you for asking. I have a particularly vivid memory of the start of Christmas Day. We had been for dinner and were outside trying to get a taxi-an impossible task. Anyway, no sooner did midnight arrive than people began to celebrate the arrival of Christmas by throwing fire-crackers from their balconies. And what crackers they were: it was as if the city had suddenly descended into a war! Talking of war, I managed to pick up basic tango steps with the help of some very nice Argentinian gentlemen. Sigh-it all seems so long ago now. Still, ever forward. I will be spending most of February in Mexico City, another new experience. Best wishes. Clio the Muse 13:54, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

Wow, sounds awesome. You lucky duck, getting to travel so much. Anchoress 14:08, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

Cat:csd

Couple notes:

  1. Categories can't be watched. There's an alternate listing for CSD that can.
  2. Did you look at my logs? Night Gyr (talk/Oy) 18:35, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
Oh, ok, thanks for the info. And no, I didn't. What are they? Anchoress 18:36, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
If the page can't be watched, how come there's a 'watch' tab at the top? Anchoress 18:37, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
The "watch" link lets you watch changes made to the "category page", not the placement/removal of the pages from the category. Cbrown1023 talk 21:09, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
Yeah... I know that already. ;-) What's your point? Anchoress 21:14, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

I've already been knocking out 30-40 entries a day at Cat:csd... in fact that and PROD have been pretty much all I've done here since I got my mop and bucket. Not much more I can do... they get added faster than I can clear them out.--Isotope23 18:39, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

OK, thanks for the info. Anchoress 14:25, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, that's news to me. Cool! Anchoress 14:25, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

RE: Help over at CAT:CSD

Hi, and congrats on your promotion! Per this discussion, I'm dropping a friendly note to some of the recently-promoted admins requesting help with speedy deletions. I am not an administrator, so if you don't feel comfortable diving into deletions - or if you need more info - please don't come to me, but I'm sure that Cyde Weys would be happy to guide you if you want to help. Any help is great, but I'm sure that Cyde and others would deeply appreciate it if you could put the page on your watchlist and do a bit of work there on a regular basis? Maybe weekly? Thanks in advance! Anchoress 18:27, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the template message. I have read the thread already and am very busy at CSD since the promotion. I hope You detect the sarcasm in my reply. Best, feydey 18:43, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

Sorry, no sarcasm detected. ;-) Anchoress 14:24, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

I also appreciated the template message. However, I've determined myself to be unqualified for the time being to do speedy deletions, and think its best if a more inclusionist-minded administrator takes a look at some of these pages before giving them the axe. Savidan 18:58, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

No probs, thanks for the reply. Anchoress 14:24, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

If you look at my deletion log, you'll see that I've already been active in CSD work. I even wrote myself a JavaScript tool to help stick in the correct CSD reason. =) -- Gogo Dodo 19:44, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

OK, sweet! I learnt something new today, how to look at user's delete logs. Cool! Anchoress 14:24, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

In addition to the other users above, I am very active in CSD and AfD. I have also added direct links to the template with pre-selected warning to speed up the Speedy Deletion progress. Although I am I currently busy in real life, I am helping. Cbrown1023 talk 21:08, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply, Cb. Anchoress 14:24, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your message. CAT:CSD is definitely going to be my first sysop priority, because there is indeed a huge problem there.--Yannismarou 08:52, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

It looks like the problem is temporarily solved; good work everyone! Anchoress 14:24, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

I'm typically fairly active in WP:UCFD, and though I have been distracted lately from WP:CFD work by other Misplaced Pages things, I intend to be more active there as my next priority. However, I'd be glad to help in the apparent current "crisis", though I tend to stay away from Images... - jc37 10:50, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the note and for giving that task a go. Anchoress 14:24, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

Template

Hello, Anchoress. I stole your template from the top of this page and put it on my talk page, but left you an exact copy. I managed to make mine look less appealing by randomly assigning a color without hitting preview. It could have been worse, I guess. Take care. ---Sluzzelin 17:16, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

OK. :-)) I have no idea what you're talking about, so Happy Friday! Anchoress 17:24, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
Indeed, it is a Happy Friday, so back at you! I always get these terms mixed up: I meant the box(?) with the message "To allow other users...", not the template. ---Sluzzelin 18:08, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
Right... I think you used the right word; you mean my notice at the top of the page v/v keeping convos together? I just didn't get what you meant by taking it and leaving a copy? Sorry, I put that thing up almost a year ago I think, and I don't even remember where I got it. Is it your template, and you changed your version and subst'd the old one on my page so it wouldn't change? Colour me confused (radioactive lemon confused lol). Anchoress 18:36, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
Oh dear, this is my fault. I didn't wish to confuse ... In fact I merely copied it from here, but wanted to see myself as the original's owner leaving you the fake, but that was pure TGIF lightheadedry. I did want to notify you. I will waste your time no longer and look forward to reading more contributions at the desks!. ---Sluzzelin 18:52, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
Hey, no probs! Anchoress 18:54, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

Er over the top

I don't think that was a very good idea to write in a public place, FYI. This isn't a disagreement with the facts, per se, but an experienced user expecting backlash. You might want to consider not participating - I'm opting out myself. Hipocrite - «Talk» 18:37, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

Oh, OK. You're talking about the AN/I thread? No problem. Anchoress 18:43, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
Ok, so I removed it. Why exactly do you think it wasn't a good idea? I don't care about backlash in any way, shape or form, BTW. Anchoress 18:46, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
(ec) I was gunna say something about it too. The problem with making guesses about the cause of someone's behavior is that it's just way too easy for things to get ugly. And, they are just guesses, be they correct or not. We can't know what's in someone's head. Best to focus purely on observable behavior and keep speculations to ourselves. I realize you're just giving your opinions and trying to help, and I hope nobody jumps down your throat about it, but I'd seriously consider ammending that remark if I were you. Friday (talk) 18:47, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
PS- Oh, I see I was a bit late. Oh well, for what it's worth, I think your remarks were mostly fine, except for the speculation bits. Friday (talk) 18:48, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
EC. Well if you read my response to Hipocrite, I already removed it so I don't need to amend it. FWIW I absolutely don't mind backlash for giving my opinion, and I did say at the bottom of my post that I realised I was stepping into uncharted waters. I gave my opinion about something, I am happy to defend it or apologise for it. And also FWIW I think there is ample evidence that Lc is OCD (his multiple minor adjustments of entries), paranoid (his reactions to criticism), narcissistic (his grandstanding, the way he talks 'to the masses' on his talkpage), and suffering from a persecution complex (see above). But... bottom line is I had already removed it when you posted, so I guess unless a bunch of other people don't notice that or comment anyways, the matter is closed. Anchoress 18:52, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
I agree fully with Friday and I think removing it was an A+ action. Hipocrite - «Talk» 18:50, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
OK. Anchoress 18:52, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
