Sri Sivasubramaniya Nadar College of Engineering (SSNCE) popularly known as SSN is a premier engineering institution located in the suburbs of Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. The Institution earned ISO 9001:2000 Certification on August 11, 2004 from Bureau Veritas Quality International.

History

Sri Sivasubramaniya Nadar College of Engineering was started under the University of Madras in 1996. This institution was the brainchild of Shiv Nadar Founder & Chairman of HCL Technologies, a $ 3.30 Billion group of companies

    • SSN School of Advanced Software Engineering in association with Carnegie Mellon University offers Master of Science in Information Technology (MSIT) graduate program.
  • National Tsing Hua University,College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Taiwan.
    • The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with the College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science National Tsing Hua University , Taiwan will facilitate academic and research co-operation with the Taiwan-based University at the industrial city of Hsinchu.

Campus locality

The college started functioning from 1996 at a temporary location in Thoraipakkam in the suburbs of Chennai. SSNCE moved to a sprawling 1 square kilometre campus at Kalavakkam on Old Mahabalipuram Road (Cyber Corridor), Chennai in 1998. The campus is trying to move towards a residential university pattern.

SSN School of Advanced Software Engineering

In association with Carnegie Mellon University, the SSN School of Advanced Software Engineering was started in 2001. It offers Masters Programs in: 1. Robotics 2. Software Engineering

SSN School of Advanced Software Engineering in collaboration with Carnegie Mellon University offers for the first time in India: Carnegie Mellon's Master of Science degree program in Information Technology with specialization in Software Engineering, Robotics Technology, Embedded Systems and Software Management.

It is a one and a half year full time residential program. The first year is offered in SSN School of Advanced Software Engineering.

In this period, the students complete core courses, prerequisites, electives and project work. Experienced faculty of SSNSASE and practicing professionals conduct the courses in the first year using Carnegie Mellon courseware. The faculty of SSNSASE and Carnegie Mellon University continuously evaluate the students.

On successful completion of the one-year curriculum in India, the students get a certificate from Carnegie Mellon University. They can then proceed to Carnegie Mellon University to complete further studies in six months, and obtain the MSIT degree. The coursework at Carnegie Mellon University consists of project work under the supervision of Carnegie Mellon University and two electives.

Students desirous of proceeding to Carnegie Mellon University should obtain a valid GRE score and US visas.

SSN Department of Biomedical engineering

The college recently started its bio-medical department to provide a quality undergraduate program in this upcoming field. College has tied up with various hospitals and research centers to provide a broad exposure to the students.The department has also planned to have tie-ups with international universities for the students to pursue their higher education. As of now there have been more than 25 papers published by the members of this department and the department's focus is mainly on research in the field of biomedical engineering.
