Grindavík is a fishing town at the peninsula of Reykjanes at the south-western coast of Iceland. It is one of the few cities with a harbour at this coast. Most of the 2500 inhabitants are living from the fishing industry.

There is an esoteric center in the town.

A rather famous Icelandic writer was born here: Guðbergur Bergsson.

Kalli Bjarni, the first winner of Icelandic version of Pop Idol, lives in Grindavik.

UMFG is the town´s sport club

Some kilometers to the north, there is the so-called Blue Lagoon (is. Bláa Lónið), a swimming pool using hot and mineralized waters from the near-by power station Svartsengi.
