Microsoft .NET was an umbrella term that did apply to a wide collection of products and technologies from Microsoft. Now it is only used to refer to the Microsoft .NET Framework and other products no longer has .NET as part of its name for example .NET Passport has changed name to Microsoft Passport Network.
