Scott Colton (born May 6, 1980 in Deerfield, Illinois), better known by his ring name "Classic" Colt Cabana, is a professional wrestler, currently working in Ring of Honor and on the independent circuit. He also works as Matt Classic in Wrestling Society X.
Career
Cabana was trained by Ace Steel and Danny Dominion. He broke into Ring of Honor as CM Punk's stablemate in the Second City Saints after turning on Raven. Cabana and Punk would later go on to hold the ROH Tag Titles. With Punk becoming a singles star, Cabana would go on to have feuds with Nigel McGuinness and Austin Aries. On August 13, 2005 Cabana defeated Punk in a two out of three falls match in their hometown of Chicago in what was supposed to be Punk's last ROH match before going to WWE. On November 8, 2005, Colt Cabana lost to Eugene, wrestling for World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), as a jobber on their program Heat.
Cabana had a very violent feud with Homicide in Ring of Honor, which featured Cabana being strangled with a metal coat hanger, bleeding from numerous chair shots, having Drāno poured down his throat, being piledriven off the ring apron through a table, and getting his head crushed between a ladder. On April 1, 2006 in Chicago, Colt Cabana finally got his revenge and earned the respect of Homicide after a brutal Chicago street fight which saw the feud settled with a handshake and an embrace.
After his decisive victory against Homicide, Colt Cabana challenged the ROH World champion Bryan Danielson for the ROH title on April 22, 2006 in Philadelphia. Danielson defeated him and retained the title. Cabana had a rematch against Danielson for the title on August 26, 2006 in Chicago. The two fought to a 60-minute time limit draw in a two out of three falls match, each wrestler earning one fall.
In 2004 and 2005, Cabana went on extensive tours of Europe, mainly England. This is where Colt picked up a lot of British based wrestling technique which you can see in his current day wrestling style. Colt wrestled in England, Scotland, Germany and France. He received the 2004 Match of the Year in a European rounds style bout with World Of Sport journeyman, Johnny Kidd. Cabana also did a short tour of Puerto Rico for IWA PR in early 2005.
Cabana has also worked a number of preliminary matches in WWE on its HEAT and Velocity shows. Cabana also wrestled on the April 10, 2006 episode of "RAW", under the name Chris Guy in a squash match against Umaga. Chris Guy is the real name of his trainer Ace Steel, who performed for WWE in 2004 under Cabana's real name Scott Colton. In addition, Cabana was a pallbearer for The Undertaker 's Casket match at WrestleMania 22.
During 2006, Cabana would become a popular wrestler in the British promotion 1 Pro Wrestling often tag teaming with Darren Burridge as Team Shag. During 1PW's first anniversary show Team Shag won the 1PW Tag Team Championship during a three way ladder match against the defending champions Jonny Storm & Jody Fleisch, and the Southern Comfort team of Tracey Smothers & Chris Hamrick.
Cabana's latest WWE appearance was on Heat, losing to 'Hacksaw' Jim Duggan. In October 2006, Cabana was involved in an auto accident with fellow Ring of Honor stars Adam Pearce and Dave Prazak. Cabana was driving from a Ring of Honor event in Dayton, Ohio when he lost control of their car due to the weather conditions. The car was totaled but everyone was wearing seatbelts, which saved their lives. Cabana suffered a bruised toe contrary to many reports which stated that he actually lost the toe. Despite the injury, Cabana wrestled the next night in Chicago Ridge, Illinois. Pearce and Prazak also walked away with bruises but were otherwise fine.
In November 2006, Cabana taped several matches for Wrestling Society X, a new wrestling series on MTV. He competed under the name Matt Classic, who, according to his profile on WSX's offical webpage, is a throwback to the wrestlers of the 50's and 60's who was in a "coma" for 40 years and then woke up to wrestle again. Instead of using his trademark moves such as the Colt 45 and Butt-butt, his profile lists him as using The Claw and Abdominal Stretch. To further enhance his gimmick as an old school wrestler, it is listed that he won the Heavyweight Championship in 1952 (28 years before he was born).
