Welcome to my talk page! I tend to reply to messages directly on here, so I suggest watching my page if you're looking for a reply. I watch user talk pages I comment on so we can keep conversations organized.

FBLA-PBL

Regarding the FBLA-PBL entry: Any time you move an article from one name to another, you should NEVER just create the article under the new name and copy-and-paste over. There is a "move" button on the top of all articles which should be used instead so as to preserve the history in accordance with the GFDL. More about all this fun in Moving pages.

I apologize, I was unaware of the function of the "Move" feature. But I guess ignorance isn't an excuse for breaking a law, huh? Is there anything I can do to rectify this? Or is the damage done? Like, for example, can we revert my previous edit, and then move it to FBLA-PBL? --Metros232 03:44, 24 December 2005 (UTC)
That's the interesting part. I'm not exactly certain myself. The logical course of action is exactly what you mentioned. The problem is that it leaves the problem of not being able to move it directly since an article already exists at FBLA-PBL, meaning we'd have to put up a request to move. This then means that we'd have to leave it at the previous home until somebody rectifies it.

Short answer: I guess that's what we're going to do in the end, but I don't know about the current history and what not. I think there's a way the admins can merge the histories (I'm still relatively new to the wikipedia politics myself), so I'll look into the procedure for that. Until then, I suggest you keep all this in mind for the future. Masterzora 05:41, 24 December 2005 (UTC)

I've requested it to be rectified Misplaced Pages:Cut_and_paste_move_repair_holding_pen so hopefully it'll be changed.--Metros232 05:45, 24 December 2005 (UTC)

Yay, they fixed it, so it's no problem any more! Just remember the "move" command for the future, okay? Masterzora 20:14, 27 December 2005 (UTC)

Cleanup tagging

Thank you for helping tag articles that need cleanup. Just so you know for future work, it's recommended not to use subst: when adding {{cleanup}}. This is to facilitate automatic refiling at a later date, and so changes to the cleanup template show up on all tagged pages. Thanks again, Beland 00:55, 15 April 2006 (UTC)

Christian Heritage School (Texas)

There is no reason for there to not be a staff list. People come to articles about things to learn about them. Why not show who the teachers are and what they teach? That's further, helpful information about the school. Please don't take it off again. (I'm not trying to be pushy or rude.)--WatchHawk 22:27, 22 April 2006 (UTC)

Disambiguate using popups?

Hi, I was the other major Bay Area disambiguation contributor. I noticed some of your edit summaries say something like "Disambiguate Convention to Fan convention using popups", and I loaded the popup script (boy what a great tool! thanks!). But I don't really see how popups help in disambiguation -- am I missing something? Thanks, Steve Pucci | talk 19:57, 30 April 2006 (UTC)

Go into your monobook again and add this line, popupFixDabs=true. Now, if you mouse over a link in need of dab, on the very bottom of the pop-up you should have a list of things that say "Click to disambiguate this link to:" and then the options to choose from.
Way cool! Thanks a lot. -Steve Pucci | talk 22:59, 30 April 2006 (UTC)

Votes

I wonder if you'd consider not using symbols to label your comments on WP:AFD. It really isn't a vote, but your use of symbols might inadvertently emphasize the false impression that it is. --Tony Sidaway 23:22, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

I'm not actively putting the symbols into there. These symbols are being generated by the java script tool for AfDs. It only started doing that something early today, I'd never seen the script do that in the past. Metros232 23:24, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

Apologies re unsigned edit

Quite right. My error, and I hope you accept my apologies. I mistakenly assigned an unsigned edit in Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Whitney Trettien to you. Thanks for rectifying the mistake. Cheers, Colonel Tom 16:38, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

Not a problem. I know it gets confusing when people add a bunch of comments in a short period of time to sort out who said what. No need to apologize. Metros232 16:40, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

Kelsey Britton page "vandalism"

I know that within discussion in deletion review, the recreation of the specific page would have been shot down by almost an unanimous vote. What I feel though, is that wikipedia entries that may have notability issues, yet have proper sourcing and seem to not be completely vanity (in that time was taken to edit with info in an encyclopedia manner), shouldnt be up for such a hasty deletion. What would you propose to do then to bring up this issue as a whole, rather than a specific page? Where do I turn? I apologize for the rash editing of the AFD page; it is just frustrating to see work completely erased that I contributed to. No, I do not know "Kelsey Britton" but I know that many pages seem to have source issues but are labeled notability issues. So I took the time to contribute and so hastily such a page was deleted. Any suggestions? Thank you for your time. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 151.197.28.144 (talkcontribs)

The issue at hand isn't the time/effort put into the article or the quality of the article, instead, it's the subject. I suggest that you review WP:BIO which lists standards for including an article about a person. A person must meet these standards, or else they are deleted for being non-notable, such as the case of the Kelsey Britton article. The article is available on Brittks's page. You can work on it there if you wish, but it's very unlikely that this will ever reach notable because a high school student is not generally considered notable unless they accomplish something major. Metros232 00:07, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
I was hoping you could assist me in my understanding of where I could go to bring up the possibility of stopping speedy/hasty deletes on material sourced. You have brought the issue back to the actual article, one that I'm not disputing your point. I simply want to know what to do if I have an issue with the system at hand for AFD's?—Preceding unsigned comment added by 151.197.28.144 (talkcontribs)
There's really no area to discuss this. About the only place I could suggest is the admin's noticeboard and see if they can weigh in on your points. I doubt you're going to get anywhere though. This article was speedy deleted which is how we handle non-notable subjects. Metros232 03:48, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

North Atlanta High School

Why did you erase the SOMETHING TO NOTE info?I am a recent grad of the high school and i also was there when the changes and that particular issue took place involving the performing arts program in which i was in. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.229.75.204 (talkcontribs)

Your section was removed because it is uncited claims of racism. It is completely point of view offering only your side of the argument. It does not say why the administration is getting rid of it, only the reaction to it. It doesn't even give a definitive source that says "North Atlanta High School is closing its performing arts program. Metros232 14:35, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
I am a North Atlanta graduate for the year 2005. I was there when they enformed us of the closing of the Performing arts magnet program. By the program not being a magnet program that means that no more student can be bused in from outside communities. If you live in Atlanta you would know that the Buckhead neighborhood were North Atlanta is located in a majority white area. The outside areas include college park, west end, and bankhead area are majority black and hispanic. How do you know that my point of view isn't fact when you didn't go to the school and was not in the program that was effected. Finally in the end of the paragram i put another point of view from the neighbors surrounding the area. Those comments were from a meeting that i attended held by Atlanta Public Schools conserning the matter. any other comments? —Preceding unsigned comment added by ACTINGDRAMA (talkcontribs)
That's the thing, I'm not from the Atlanta area, so I don't know this. That's why you need to provide sources for what you're saying. You can't just report things you heard at a board of education meeting and cite that as fact on here. I can't even find a source that says the school is no longer offering the program. You need to cite this section and you need to make it fall under Neutral point of view standards. Metros232 17:50, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

North Atlanta High School

I dont think you understand the difference between a school having a program that is magnet and a school that has a program. North Atlanta still has the performing arts program, but it is no longer a magnet. If the program is no longer magnet that mean students from outside zones can not enter into the program. If you go to the performing arts page on the school website then it says that the program is no longer a magnet program. The school requires you to enter the program through the IB program, which is totally different from a performing arts program.

Now do you see the difference between a magnet and program still being there. i am going to rewrite the what i put up there to include both point of views. UNDERSTAND THAT —Preceding unsigned comment added by ACTINGDRAMA (talkcontribs)

School naming

Ah, I see - Even so, with schools (but NOT with school districts) I tend to go all the way anyway since there may be a school of the same name proposed and built elsewhere in a given state. I tend to go all the way with school names to be on the safe side UNLESS there is only one school in the whole world with that name. Also - Some schools are better known by the city than by the state. WhisperToMe 16:24, 3 June 2006 (UTC)

I didn't see the story in the Google results because there's a lot of simple uses of "The refusal" mixed in, "the refusal to submit..." "the refusal to compromise..." etc. Thanks for clarifying that. The description sounds off...almost like a student describing a professor that they dislike, so I don't know aobut this article. Metros232 13:46, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

Battle of Green Spring

I think rather than erasing most of the article because it came from another article, it should be rewritten with the article listed as a source. Thoughts? --Awiseman 20:45, 6 June 2006 (UTC)

If that's what you want to do, go for it. I'm not an expert on the content, so I wouldn't feel comfortable creating an article based on that source, but if you do, by all means go for it. Metros232 13:47, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

My links are NOT commercial links

I wish you guys would stop doing that.... removing things without asking first.

First of all, "Bloodless Bullfighting" is totally different from the regular "bullfighting" section. It is bloodless and we don't kill the bulls.

Secondly, our site is an information site specifically for "bloodless bullfights", its history, culture, etc, etc.

The links I noted are for people to go directly to the pages so that they have a better understanding of what each one are.

So stop that because it's really annoying that you guys think that you are "moderators" of the world or something. You have no clue as to what the subject is, because if you did, you'd have your input in there.

So, I'm putting the links back in because they are related to the subject.

Also, how can you think that we are "commercial" when we don't earn one dime. Get real. Honestly, do you see any sponsors and advertisers on our pages? I don't think so!!!!! So next time, be a little bit more attentive and pay attention to details.

Thanks in advance --Webmistress Diva 07:54, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

I have reduced your external links to two links, one to the Ranch and one to the Calfornia Bullriding site. Misplaced Pages is not a link repository. A few links, okay, but you don't need to link to every page and subpage of your website. One link suffices. Metros232 13:52, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

Copyvio on Ruby License

I'm fairly sure that the text of licence agreements is not subject to copyright restrictions. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.213.7.130 (talkcontribs)

It's a good question in this case now that I look at it deeper. I would think a license agreement is restricted as its part of a software product and therefore, copyright of the producer. However, in this case, the user offers the software under GPL, so does the license get blanket coverage under GPL too? Metros232 22:41, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

Prod vs CSD

In my experience, many articles flagged for speedy deletion can be salvaged, whether by rewriting (particularly if a copyvio is involved) or by more carefully explaining why the subject is notable. And sometimes articles flagged for speedy deletion are removed almost immediately.

When I try to fix an article flagged for speedy deletion, I flag it as prod because it might otherwise be deleted almost immediately. I have occasionally been editing an article flagged for speedy and, in the middle of the edit, seen the article deleted by someone else. I understand and agree with speedy deletion of patent nonsense and other things that are obviously unsalvageable, but often articles flagged for speedy deletion are salvageable, and where that seems possible, I would much rather that people use prod or afd than speedy. TruthbringerToronto (Talk | contribs) 14:50, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

But don't we have {{hangon}} for that? Metros232 14:55, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

Userfying doomed pages

When you userfy a biography like you did with User:Brutalforcekhamelion and User:Biggiea, please move the page rather than simply copying and pasting the article. Moving it preserves the history of the article which is necessary under the GFDL.

Yes, this makes sense, except that sometimes it's not obvious that a potential speedy deletion will in fact be deleted, and moving rather than copying might cause more confusing.

Also, when doing this, make sure there's a reasonable belief that the user is the subject of the biography. For example, why did you move Frank Garvey to User:Erin steel? I was the one that tagged that for speedy deletion and I don't remember anything in particular that suggested Erin steel is Frank Garvey.

I think that User:Erin steel created Frank Garvey, and where the names don't match I am careful to say "copying (or moving) biography page to userpage" rather than using the term "autobiography". If I got mixed up and User:Erin steel was not the creator of Frank Garvey, then that userpage should probably be deleted or be edited down to the userpage tag to avoid confusing the user. Publications by governments in the U.S.

Note that text copied from government websites in the United States is generally in the public domain. While the copy and paste does not make for a good article, it can be reduced to its minimum, with text from the copy, and the copied text does not need to be deleted from the page history. —Centrxtalk • 05:26, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks again for the offer and if I do decide to try for adminship one day, I'll take you up on it :) Metros232 11:40, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

You're welcome. In the meantime, keep up the good work.;) Tyrenius 12:31, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

Please be more careful

When you are reverting copyvios, or anything else, please be more careful to not remove subsequent edits by other editors, as you have just done here. Ta. --Mais oui! 15:03, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

My apologies. When I looked at the changes it appeared that your edits had affected the copied and pasted part only. I guess I overlooked that some of the edits were for the rest of the article too. My apologies again, Metros232 15:07, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
No probs. Keep up the good work! (I may try to use some of the info from that Ext link to expand the article, but that cut and paste job was pretty amazing copyvio - I don't often come across such blatant ones.) --Mais oui! 19:41, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

World's Largest Buffalo

Certainly the initial edit was a bit off, but the one he attempted to add afterward seemed reasonable, though the editing was boosterish and rough. I don't blame you for seeing vandalism here, but I have seen plenty of new editors turned off by the vandal cops before they have a chance to improve their editing style. --AlexWCovington (talk) 18:35, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

World's Largest Buffalo (again)

Thank you for keeping vandalism to a minimum here, but I meant well. I appreciate your outside contact to this matter and look forward to working on other projects here. I apologize for any problems. Idontsteal 18:51, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

External link locator

I think you were looking for this link. - Mgm| 21:20, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for finding that :) It's not the same one (the one I had found last time was internal and not on the tools server) but it works just the same. If I come across the list of tools that you're looking for, I'll let you know. Thanks again, Metros232 21:25, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

Missing NJ High Schools

Thanks for the painstaking work cleaning up Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Missing encyclopedic articles/High schools/US/New Jersey. I had gotten started, but never had a chance to finish. I saw that you disambiguated articles that were refering to the wrong HS. There are also a bunch of names in the remaining list that don't match existing articles or planned titles for future articles. I will clean these up as the articles are created. Thanks again for all your work on this effort! Alansohn 13:54, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

No problem. I did my best to rename then as an article would likely show up as, so hopefully it works. Metros232 14:14, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

Are you the same person as Hipocrite?

Wikify tags

Please do not remove the tags if you are not doing any work to the articles. Wikifying means bringing it to Misplaced Pages standards by adding internal links, proper formating, and sections where necessary. This is not what you did here , here , and here among other edits. Please be more careful and don't just simply remove the tag. Metros232 12:36, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

Those edits, done on the instructions of someone else, all occurred at the same time and therefore can be considered one incident. A person told me some extremely upsetting things about a school page and that the person who was trying to delete the school page systematically did this to school pages all the time. So I did what he said to do. This incident, one incident, has now been pointed out to me numberous times and spread around on other pages too, and resulted in a rude welcome page from Hipocrite/Mestros232 and a slandering banner on my user page. I want to know how this constitutes a "history of personal attacks"? You/Hipocrite seem to assume that I am a complete idiot and that I must be a bad person (sockpuppet). I was helping a friend out. O.K. I broke a rule unknowingly. I did not know I was removing tags, although perhaps I did so in a hurry. (But I do not know what tag(s) you are referring to.) In any event, a friend wanted me to insert certain things into that one page, and so I tried. I have seen things inserted into talk pages out of order all the time (if that is what you are referring to). All I know was that I was give the link to the page, and to help my friend I tried to put in the remarks he wanted in to point out the behavior of a bad person who was also attacking my friend. I did the whole thing in a hurry because my friend said there was a time pressure. Maybe I made mistakes and removed tags unwittingly. I hope the person initiating that deletion has also been punished too because that person was also making attacks. Otherwise, I'm beginning to think that there is a group of people (or maybe the same person under different names) who are trying to drive me off Misplaced Pages. Besides this particular incident involving that one page, I want to know what this "history of personal attacks" I have. Capit 13:12, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

I react as I do because I am being harassed by Hipocrite

I really cannot pay attention or read anything you guys send me anymore because it has all been so negative from day one. So when I get any kind of message with three of those arrow links, I assume it is more attacking and don't read it. I just assume it's the same three accusing links as previously. Besides, I don't understand what they mean anyway. Capit 14:04, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

Well please don't take it out on users who are trying to help improve the encyclopedia. Metros232 14:13, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

Thank you!
