Dagestani reddit user is claiming they made it
Around 10 September 2023 a reddit user from Dagestan claimed that his expedition made the summit. They have a number of pictures and videos that seem to lend credence to their claim. MyIP19216811 (talk) 04:25, 11 September 2023 (UTC)
- Someone keeps editing it back to say "unclimbed" despite the photos and videos posted on reddit and mountaineering talk boards 192.0.182.43 (talk) 15:12, 11 September 2023 (UTC)
- A reddit post isn't a reliable source. See WP:UGC which lists reddit as an example of an unacceptable user-generated source. ThaddeusSholto (talk) 16:26, 11 September 2023 (UTC)
- No buzzkill about it. I agree it is unverified until they publish it somewhere legit. Best wishes to them. MyIP19216811 (talk) 15:11, 23 September 2023 (UTC)
- Sorry to be a buzzkill, but it's just a couple of videos that don't show much background, with gear that seems suspiciously light for the conditions they claim to have encountered. Could be... many places that aren't Muchu Chhish. Not to mention that there are quite a few details that don't quite add up. Could be a not-that-experienced, non-English-speaking mountaineer barely communicating on Gilgit wifi, could be a hoax. The original poster has mentioned that they've emailed the AAJ, and a couple other mountaineering news sources have also expressed interest, so if it's not a hoax, it'll likely be verified by them in the following months. 86.124.148.88 (talk) 17:09, 11 September 2023 (UTC)
- not sure how reliable this source is, but just to add more info : (the article says "confirmation still pending" though so I think it would be premature to add anything to the Wiki page).WanderingTrad (talk) 06:46, 13 September 2023 (UTC)
- That article doesn´t seem to contain anything beyond information contained in the redit posts. It´s likely the author of that article doesn´t have any information beyond the reddit posts. Doesn´t even feature topo of the alleged route. 94.112.64.47 (talk) 20:26, 14 September 2023 (UTC)
- No one who says that is ever sorry to be a buzzkill, lol.
- We will await verification, and we'll be happy that you can no longer be able buzzkill. 38.147.229.99 (talk) 17:19, 13 September 2023 (UTC)

The claimed ascent has been debunked: . Personally, I feel that when somebody claims to have climbed a mountain, but none of their photos resemble that mountain, we should be sceptical. bobrayner (talk) 11:32, 4 October 2023 (UTC)
