On 17 October 2023, amid the 2023 Hamas–Israel war, Israeli aircraft bombed the courtyard of Al Ahli Arab Baptist Hospital in which displaced Palestinians were seeking shelter, killing over 500 civilians, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.
