News and updates for administrators from the past month (July 2023).
Interface administrator changes
- The tag filter on Special:NewPages and revision history pages can now be inverted. This allows hiding edits made by automated tools. (T334338)
- Special:BlockedExternalDomains is a new tool that allows easier blocking of plain domains (and their subdomains). This is more easily searchable and is faster for the software to use than the existing MediaWiki:Spam-blacklist. It does not support regex (for complex cases), URL path-matching, or the MediaWiki:Spam-whitelist. (T337431)
- The arbitration cases named Scottywong and AlisonW closed 10 July and 16 July respectively.
- The SmallCat dispute arbitration case is in the workshop phase.

- Following an RfC, TFAs will be automatically semi-protected the day before it is on the main page and through the day after.
- A discussion at WP:VPP about revision deletion and oversight for dead names found that
ysops can choose to use revdel if, in their view, it's the right tool for this situation, and they need not default to oversight. But oversight could well be right where there's a particularly high risk to the person. Use your judgment
.
- Special:Contributions now shows the user's local edit count and the account's creation date. (T324166)
- The SmallCat dispute case has closed. As part of the final decision, editors participating in XfD have been reminded to be careful about forming
local consensus which may or may not reflect the broader community consensus
. Regular closers of XfD forums were also encouraged tonote when broader community discussion, or changes to policies and guidelines, would be helpful
.
- Tech tip: The "Browse history interactively" banner shown at the top of Special:Diff can be used to easily look through a history, assemble composite diffs, or find out what archive something wound up in.

Execuflight Flight 1526
Hi, I made this request at WP:REFUND, however the admin UtherSRG has redirected me here. I copy-pasted the request below:
- There were 2 AFDs conducted, at Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Execuflight Flight EFT1526 in 2015 and Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/2015 Akron Rayathon Hawker 800 crash in 2016. The former was closed as merge, however I failed to find the page history that goes back. The latter was closed as no consensus, but it became a redirect with the page history preserved, but was not particularly well developed. The main concern here is that the event fails WP:NOTNEWS and WP:ROTM, and someone mentioned in the 2015 AFD that it would be WP:CRYSTAL to expect future significance. However, in 2021, aviation documentary series Mayday made a 40-minute episode on this incident. You can find the Amazon page for the season here (it's S16E2). In addition, on the 1 year anniversary Cleveland 19 published an article on the accident. Both of these seems to push this above WP:INDEPTH and WP:LASTING to be featured beyond the time after NTSB published their report. I wish to restore the article deleted in 2015, as the 2016 article has nothing much to salvage on. If possible I wish the article can be restored to my userspace as User:S5A-0043/sandbox/ExecuFlight flight 1526 so that I can work on it more after restoration. S5A-0043 11:51, 16 October 2023 (UTC)
I will leave this until after October 22nd, after which I will make a request at WP:DRV if there is no response. S5A-0043 12:55, 16 October 2023 (UTC)
BAG membership
Hello. You are listed as a member of the Bot Approvals Group but it appears you may not be actively helping in this area anymore. Do you intend to return to BAG-related activity on Misplaced Pages, or are you happy to be removed from this list? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 13:00, 14 December 2023 (UTC)
