Winning their last championship in 1967, the Maple Leafs' 55-season drought between championships is the longest current drought in the NHL. 198.166.184.52 (talk) 10:14, 8 April 2022 (UTC)
It doesn’t look great but it’s math and they may have a chance this year do you want Misplaced Pages to be wrong for the inevitable run to the semifinals and it becomes national/international news that they will break the drought Trolflagdor (talk) 10:31, 8 April 2022 (UTC)
- Done, 53 seasons is correct. BLAIXX 14:57, 8 April 2022 (UTC)
- They didn't have a chance in 2022. They don't have one this year. It's not in anyone's interest to pay for a truly competitive team when the arena is filled for the next 250 years. The league doesn't want any Canadian team to win because there's marketing value in keeping the cup in the USA, and Toronto doesn't need to win because their fans throw money at them in buckets even when they're losing.
- Toronto will have a chance when people stop showing up to the games, much like happened in Chicago in the 2010s. This is why Toronto so actively opposes teams in places like Hamilton, and historically, Ottawa and Buffalo; or even a second Toronto team a la NY Islanders - if a winning team springs up near Toronto, it could very well tip over the Toronto money cow. 174.115.238.62 (talk) 13:04, 3 January 2024 (UTC)
1967 is 55 years ago not 52 can we change that? Trolflagdor (talk) 10:20, 8 April 2022 (UTC)
- Don't forget that we count by seasons played, not by calendar year. There are some lockout years when hockey wasn't played (such as the 2004–05 lockout) and, therefore, the article has to be updated manually each season played. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 15:49, 8 April 2022 (UTC)
I believe it's now 54 years? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.212.139.99 (talk) 22:10, 14 May 2022 (UTC)
- It's 55 years, but 54 seasons, thanks to the 2004–05 lockout. GoodDay (talk) 02:34, 15 May 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for the clarification. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 16:00, 15 May 2022 (UTC)
- Make that 56 seasons & counting, now. GoodDay (talk) 02:09, 14 May 2023 (UTC)
- Well then. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 15:14, 14 May 2023 (UTC)
